Re: Burke family, Castlebar
“ The reasonable man adapts himself to the world: the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.” ― George Bernard Shaw, Man and Superman Indeed. The latest is, he's had to be moved for his own safety as he's annoying o...

Re: Burke family, Castlebar
The man should be appladed for sticking to his guns. He has shown integrty. Some of his methods might not be approved but someone has to stand up to any school tat will put feelings about hard scientific facts. Its a shocking disgrace that he was put in jail for highlighting how silly teh school is...

Re: Burke family, Castlebar
I just found out today, that the Burke family protested Aontas meetings a few years back. They are the Association of Evangelical Christians of Ireland
I honestly don't know a genuine evangelical believer, who knows them, who agrees with them. They'd fight with their cornflakes

Re: Burke family, Castlebar
I finally met a pastor today who had been asked to speak to the Burkes at the time of the NUIG controversy as a mediator, a really decent guy. They refused to speak to anyone When I asked him, what church they belonged to, he basically said, they're there own church. He said he believes it's a case ...

Re: Burke family, Castlebar
I don't think they're crazy, but I do think they've been raised & despite a college education, remain in a bubble.
How does a teacher make a living if he can't work with/for other people. As I mentioned before, the Burkes can't seem to get on with fellow conservative believers

Well, I heard on the wireless than he's cooling off in Jail. No harm to him to have a period to cool off. The question of right or wrong for the pronoun isn't the big issue, the issue is ignoring a lawful high court order that was granted after his behaviour. Blimey, is that a criminal record then?

Re: Burke family, Castlebar
I've got a question about them, if any of ye could answer, it would satisfy my curiosity and explain a mountain of other questions & issues What Church do/did they attend on a Sunday? You see, I got to a small (Presbyterian) Church in Galway that had loads of students in it who were in NUIG with...

We've been doing it for years (cos, we all work at home), yes, that and a portion of phone expenses, internet etc. I put all of my mobile on...

Re: Rural based commuters
Yes, I agree, it could have been any kind of trolls & the only one I knew that was pro-greenway was civil.... well they didn't say anything, and may have found it difficult as only a few of us could speak in that format I was at a 'live' WRC meeting in Athenry, before covid, & a greenway sup...

Re: Rural based commuters
The meeting in question was this one. https://i.ibb.co/Sw5h93K/Western-rail-corridor-meeting-poster.jpg Initially it seemed as if there were over 75 people in attendance (not bad), but I'm going to go out on a limb here & say that maybe 5-10 accounts were trolls, and I recognised one person at t...

Western Rail Corridor meeting Mon 20th
I'm not one to clutch pearls but the obscenity of the anti-rail trolls... and their general shenanigans at this evenings meeting, was shocking. If I were a politician, I'd run a mile from them

Hey Folks, My amp for my stereo stack, needs repairing. It's an Onkyo A-9211. Does anyone do that anymore? I invested in a proper stack so that it would be repairable & if one part went kaput, the rest (CD and a turn table) are still good. Sustainability & quality & all that jazz... :rol...

Galway city & County; Where can I get things fixed & repaired
Hello Folks, I'm helping a mate out... She lives in the Westside & she's not local (ropey english) 1) Where to get fixed a broken, electric, wall mounted fire in her rental apartment, anywhere that does repairs on that? Galway City preferably The 'West Side'. She'd also like a wooden framed arm ...

Re: Jimmy Carr faces backlash over ‘disturbing’ Holocaust joke about Travellers
Just a note;
Jimmy Carr has always told offensive jokes
Always
He tried to figure out what was the most off limits (he concluded Paedophilia) and tried to do ten jokes about that
He keeps getting commissions even though everyone knows this is his shtick
Go figure

Re: How should we develop Ireland's railways - North and South
I'm delighted that cyclist.ie submitted for the rail review. It illustrates what I've long suspected about those that call for old rail alignments that should be re-opened as rail, to be used for greenways, they have no interest in cycling beyond a tourist product to make money. Actual cycle advocat...

Re: How should we develop Ireland's railways - North and South
Delighted to see Sligo are pro- WRC. I'm not sure how I missed that. Perhaps because I've been listening to too many 'rip up rail' advocates lately https://westernpeople.ie/2022/01/11/cllr-wants-multi-county-call-to-reopen-western-rail-corridor/ Just adding this in the edit, a compelling argument fo...

Re: How should we develop Ireland's railways - North and South
Let's put this thread back on track, so to speak. The NTA's Connecting Ireland consultation on their proposals around provincial bus frequencies is ongoing. Forgive me for being naive here but is it right that the NTA should completely ignore the rail service and particularly where the current serv...

Where can I find x in Galway
Hey Folks, I'm looking for an Elf hat.
I've not been into the city centre to small joke shops, just the big box ones so if you've spotted one in the suburban shops that'd be a great help.

Re: How should we develop Ireland's railways - North and South
How the hell did this become an anti Travel card thread?. My sister, who used to work, pay taxes & drive a car became quiet disabled (Acquired brain Injury with severe epilepsy), had to fight for one. It's been a life saver and made moving out of the city to our house in a small town (with a rai...

I honestly believe if our TD's were given Travel Cards instead of 'per mile' travel expenses, our public transport, our planning & our environment would be in Better shape. Less bureaucracy too... Some of these articles are food for thought https://www.irishmirror.ie/news/irish-news/rte-prime-ti...
