Favourite Rolling Stones tunes.

With Mick Jagger's 80th birthday (not something many people would've thought they'd say!) in the past week, I thought let's make a thread on some of favourite songs by The Rolling Stones. And here's some of mine. Sister Morphine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrwwiAUYdpA Haunting tune, with fantas...

PSA: TCM shutting down for good in Ireland and UK

On July the 6th, Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will be shutting down for good in Ireland and the UK.

As someone who likes classic movies, I'm gutted by this news and Netflix's selection has also gotten worse over the years. Guess I should go back to buying movies on physical media...

Re: What did you watch last night?

I watched Demolition Man (1993) last night. An entertaining, if very dated Action Sci-fi film. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0B5v6QZ5R3g The night before, I watched The Outlaw Josey Wales. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCPcoNo_OkM I'll be honest, this is the first Western I've watched all the wa...

Re: What are you listening to at the moment?

I watched this video on YouTube about Cumbia music from Peru in the 1960s to the 80s.

So I've been listening to the compilation below this evening. Recommended if you like Santana, Latin Music and/or Reggae.

Re: WTF moment of the day

Speaking of Furries, here's a YouTube video/documentary about a Furry convention that ended up being an utter disaster, and thus was never held again.

Re: International Men's Day and Why We Need to Advocate for Men

I don't necessarily disagree with the people here saying that "International (insert whatever) Day's" are fairly stupid and useless towards whatever cause they may be supporting. If the world was just, we wouldn't need them. Especially in the case of International Men's Day, which actually...

International Men's Day and Why We Need to Advocate for Men

In case you didn't know, today is International Men's Day. From the media, to adverts and other forms of entertainment, you'll hear them talk about how men and boys are awful. Examples include the Gillette ad from a few years back and the bumbling stupidity of many fathers and sons from many TV show...

Re: Too much sport on radio news bulletins?

I hardly ever listen to the radio, except when my Dad has Newstalk on (which I absolutely loathe, BTW). Apart from having too much sports coverage, you also have insufferable pundits/hosts and their talk shows, starting arguments over meaningless crap like crisp sandwiches and whatever is in the new...

Re: What are you listening to at the moment?

They're one of those Irish bands whose output seems to be completely bypassed when it comes to inclusion on compilations or release of reissues. Wouldn't happen if they were English. The problem with them (from Island Record's view, probably) is that they are a very obscure band nowadays, meaning t...

https://i.ibb.co/PNLfWrP/IMG-20221030-143132.jpg I bought this album the same day as I got the Cuban Jazz record from my last post on this thread. Some people here might remember this band from the 80s. Blue in Heaven was a post-punk band from Dublin that disbanded in 1989, but later reformed as Bl...

Re: Post what's on your mind

I'm a big fan of the green triangles in Quality Street. Can't think of their name though I think that's actually just what they're called. About the Roses, I think I used to prefer them to the Quality Street, but then Cadbury's started fiddling about with the flavours too much. For an example, ther...

https://i.ibb.co/51gn9Qz/IMG-20221023-204057.jpg I bought this Cuban Jazz record off of a recommendation of your man who runs the record shop I regularly go into (our tastes align a fair bit and we haven't had many arguments about music, thankfully!). What is your most shameful moment(s) of gluttony?

I'll start... I once ate 6-7 penguin bars in a single sitting. This was because I somehow developed an addiction to the things (more like the sugar that's in them), and I had my hands in my face after I realised what I did. Haven't had them too many since then, though. There's also times where we bo...

I've finished reading "The Best Catholics in the World: The Irish, the Church and the end of a Special Relationship" by Derek Scally. The book is written by an Irishman who has lived in Germany for the last 20 years and is about how Ireland has dealt with it's unsavoury past regarding Cath...

Re: Frankenfoods

Maybe msg isn’t so bad after all, although it certainly has a bad reputation. MSG is used quite a bit in Japan and it also occurs naturally in small amounts in other foods like tomatoes, cheese and seaweed. MSG is used to give food an Umami/Savoury flavour, so that's why you find it added to foods ...

Another thing to consider is that the same crowd (the food industry in 1960s America) also created the food pyramid, which not long after spread worldwide. https://i.postimg.cc/GmYpCN4g/Screenshot-20220905-203719.jpg I don't think there's anything wrong with having crisps and chocalate on top, but t...

Got this album earlier this week.
Only recently heard about and got into J. J. Cale and how he influenced guitarists like Eric Clapton and
Mark Knopfler. Should be a good spin.
