Re: A pity that this place is so quiet
I never realised that I wasn't logged in. When I checked the odd time, I debated whether to bother posting before deciding it wasn't worth bringing on the hounds of others jumping up and down. From reading this, I think I'll sign out of the echo chamber and just leave it there.

Re: Anyone still glued to this?
Macron and Shultz tried to talk to Putin before the war started to try to avert the war. Putin ignored them. Putin gambled on the West appeasing him like was done in Donbas in 2014, Georgia, Chechnya, Armenia, Syria, etc. This time the west didn't roll over. Putin is still gambling on the west getti...

Re: Anyone still glued to this?
If you read Putin's ravings from 2 years ago, he wants to restore the Soviet Union. He wants Russian troops in Berlin.
I wouldn't be surprised if he wants to emulate Tzar Alexander and take Paris. After all in his warped view, it's Russian (as Tzar Alexander took it once in battle)

There is an easy path to peace and always has been . Wow. If you are so sure of an easy path to peace that's acceptable to both sides, you're a better diplomat than all of the UN and if you pull off this easy path to peace, there's a Nobel Prize in it for you. I hope you are not subscribing to the ...

Re: Burke family, Castlebar
I can see the school arguing for the Burke's being required to lodge money with the high court before continuing in their appeal. There has been plenty of times that was done in the past. Unless the money is lodged, no appeal. If Burke's win, money is returned. It's a reasonable argument to make due...

Re: Burke family, Castlebar
My view on this is two fold. First, Burke is an idiot for his behaviour at the school and the court. He could have been a lot more dignified and make a much bigger impact by a dignified stand. Sure one of the judges said that on his application to have the discipline hearing stopped that his case ha...

Re: Burke family, Castlebar
True, the behaviour of the Burke's was ridiculous alright. Bloody disgraceful. If they behaved more normally in the court, they would do a lot better.

I met the owner of my house for the first time a few weeks ago - I've lived her nearly 16 years and keep the place in good order, I pay rent on time in full and have never been a second late - that is all she needs!! Re: General Current Affairs Chat - Global and Local
That is very accurate and very scary. There is a hotel in my town that spent a fortune on converting the back area/smoking section to a beer garden. We spent a lot of money in there from late 2020 to when pubs were back to normal, nowhere else to go under Covid rules, could only drink outside. He's...

Re: General Current Affairs Chat - Global and Local
Most landlords just want a steady income with steady rules. If they know what the rules are going to be for a few years and can get their rent, most are happy. It's the not getting rent for years when "tenants" won't leave and whistling your ducks to water to get back rent that's a major p...

Re: General Current Affairs Chat - Global and Local
The SD did the right thing in picking a young leader. The previous pair were seen as some of the old guard. If Holly Cairns and the SD were clever, they would have a few reasonable core policies and stop jumping on every bandwagon. They should take a leaf from SF playbook, a few core ideas repeated ...
