The Aaron Brady, Garda killer case
Apart from apparently going around boasting about killing a Garda killer , was there any actual hard evidence against him ? Like the Derek Bentley case many years ago in England, when a police officer is killed on duty, everyone from police colleagues to the general public want to see someone go dow...

Re: Traditional forums that are still going in Ireland (excluding "planks")
Obviously you didnt know much about Askaboutmoney back during the construction bubble. Posts and posters questioning it very not welcome. Of course owner famously went on 61 news to tell people to go out and buy boot loads of Irish bank shares as the banks were going into liquidation. Can't remembe...

Traditional forums that are still going in Ireland (excluding "planks")
Politics.ie and askaboutmoney are the only two that I'd know well, P.ie seems to be ticking over ok with posts all things considered but I've no idea who owns/runs it nowadays. I always found the askaboutmoney owner to be a bit of a jerk but I found the place ok until 20 when any posts quesioning go...

Re: 4yrs on : The "Ventilator shortage "
Something that is not in dispute is that RTE devoted hundreds of hours of news coverage to Covid and Covid deaths - yet, earlier this year when the OECD research showed that there were zero excess deaths in Ireland during the pandemic, RTE gave that about 5 minutes, buried in the middle of couple o...

4yrs on : The "Ventilator shortage "
A lot of people seem to have forgotten the Genesis of lockdowns in Europe, This time 4 years ago, we were being bombarded with daily death numbers from Italy and also bring told that Italy had run out of Ventilators and hospitals had to choose to let 50yos die to give 40yos a Ventilator. Funnily eno...

People who get caught by "paedophile hunters"
Unless I'm missing something, I presume the way it works is that the "paedophile hunter" posing as an early -mid teens girl randomly messages a guy on social media? If so I'm amazed that anyone would still be falling for it, I mean it's right up there now with the Nigerian Prince and Ugand...

To be fair, the noughties had become common before the end of that decade, I remember using it in 2003, although it was the first time the people I was talking to had heard it

We didn't call the decade the "10S" when we were living through it
I notice that the years 2010 to 2019 are referred to widely now as the 10s, The BBC have recently launched a Sounds of the 10s hour on Radio 1 for example. Living through it though, it was completely nameless

African "Orphanages " The New Nigerian prince
There is this phenomena in parts of Africa of young single men running "orphanages" and using social media to beg for money with hard luck stories of one or more of the kids needing life saving treatment etc. The truth is that the kids usually aren't really orphans and the young man owner ...

The covid scam saved the world
Covid saved the world economy, even the biggest anti lockdown libertarian (hell that's exactly what Boris Johnson is) would have gone along with it if the alternative was a worldwide financial meltdown.

Not too mention the report by Peter Bacon that said we had far too many hotels: https://www.irishtimes.com/business/quarter-of-hotel-rooms-must-close-says-bacon-1.770198 Incidentally, he was right and if it wasn't for all the Direct Provision etc. the dire state of of our hotel sector would be more...

2009-2015ish Did anyone predict the housing shortage ?
I remember during the crazy Celtic tiger days, you had Morgan Kelly and David McWilliams on TV predicting that it would end but I don't recall anyone saying in the early 10s that we should be building social housing, indeed the narrative was pretty much that we had enough houses until the end of tim...
