Re: This "man-woman-person" thing ... and not speaking English
I* use pronouns all the time. So do you*. We* all do. He*, she* and gender binary pronouns are going through a reassessment, and a very small number are choosing not to identify as either. As is their* right in a democracy. * denotes pronouns. Certainly, it is their right to call themselves what th...

It's not just the in the US though. They are feeding antibiotics to cattle in the UK too. Rather than wait until an animal gets sick and then treat it, they just add them to the feed as a precautionary measure. They tested some meat from supermarkets on a documentary recently and found several diffe...

See? Change is great, and just like society, language evolves and develops. Your "worked perfectly well for 1,000 years" point is like King Canute on the beach. Language is like a foundation with new bricks being added on top over time to build a wall. The cornerstones of english are pron...

Re: This "man-woman-person" thing ... and not speaking English
Are you saying Chaucer used it for someone who didn't identify as a man? Gender fluidity going back centuries on stage is well known, males playing female roles, Sarah Bernhardt as Hamlet etc. But in poetry? That wasn't gender fluidity, it's called acting luvvie, ie pretending to be someone you're ...

That's just the same old nonsense of picking the worst of bad American habits and practices, and extrapolating them to include every other region's equivalent activity. Not at all helpful as far as saving the planet is concerned - especially when they're causing just as much damage with their inten...

There is far too much emphasis being put on cars and planes and such, the elephant in the room; livestock, is never mentioned, even though it produces a much greater amount of greenhouse gases. The vast majority of the rainforests were cleared to either graze cattle or grow crops to make their feed,...

So round at Uncle Frank's, where language has not changed and evolved in 1,000 years (even though he himself uses words like "woke"), the conversation goes like this... Whan that Aprille with his shoures soote, The droghte of March hath perced to the roote, And bathed every veyne in swich...

If it ain't broke don't fix it. The english language has been working fine for over 1000 years before these woke wallys came along decided that it needs to be rewritten and we all must fall in behind them and obey without question. They will push their luck too far one of these days, probably try to...

Re: Kerry Babies "No desire to press charges"
One hundred percent the father is a politician, Garda or clergy. If it was a Guard I think it would have to be someone who was quite high up in the force and could pull strings. The general public are less likely to keep stum so long for a crooked guard. I don't think the clergy have as much clout ...

Re: Kerry Babies "No desire to press charges"
Some on this thread seem to have Baby John's mother bang to rights for the murder. Maybe it has happened before but for a mother to kill her newborn baby in such a brutal fashion would be quite rare, I don't ever remember hearing of a case like that. The father would have been much more likely to ha...

Is there a customs charge on returns?
I ordered something from overseas and had to pay a customs charge to An Post before they would deliver it. I was wondering if I returned the item to exchange it would there be another customs charge to pay when the new item comes back into the country again? If I have to pay twice it won't really be...
