Re: Rejuvenating my Deau

Right, it took a while for the bits to arrive. Again.... I collected a full set of seals and bushings (I only needed enough for one fork, but apparently they come in a set) and retaining clips and o-rings. What wasn't included was the piston seal. That was disappointing as when you add the fluids an...

Re: Rejuvenating my Deau

Hey JayZeus, Thanks for the advice. Yes it makes complete sense. I bought the seals on eBay Germany so no faffing around with customs. However the lead time was significant. I'm heading out tomorrow morning, so I'll be calling in to Jackson Motorcycles near the airport. I'm getting brake pads/fluid,...

Re: Rejuvenating my Deau

Update... Replaced the forks on the bike. Not happy. One of them makes a grinding sound when the outer slider is turned. Took it off and removed the top cap and the spring/washer/compressor tube. Nothing wrong there. I'm suspecting the inner tube bush, because it was noticeably looser on the tube th...

Re: Rejuvenating my Deau

Thanks Apelles. I'm going to document this journey. My strategy is to spend as little money as possible as I progress. This is to prevent me falling into the "sunk costs" trap. I KNOW that my brakes are goosed because the forks leaked onto them. So I'm going to fix the forks and brakes mys...

Rejuvenating my Deau

Greetings. My old Deau is sitting in the back garden now, forlornly. I brought it home a couple of months ago, and realised that there's plenty to do on it. So I started... First job is to fix the leaky fork seals. Got a quote for €210, and thought "to hell with that, that's more than the bike ...

Re: Suspension behaviour

Right, update !! I said at the outset that I wanted to make an interesting thread. Here goes... Taxed and insured the bike last month, but owing to a bereavement, everything came to a standstill. Anyway, couple of weeks ago, Mrs N and I went out to collect it. Unfortunately, the front wheel was flat...

Re: Motorbike mechanic recommendation sought

Whoops, in response to Seanybiker, it's an 03 Honda Deauville. Having insured it, and considering the outlay for the tyre, I'm hoping nothing disastrous is discovered further down the road, so to speak. In the past, I have been a real sucker for the fallacy of sunk costs. Although, in recent years I...

Re: Motorbike mechanic recommendation sought

Thanks for the replies, guys. Unwelcome development. Brought battery home and nursed it back to life. Went back, fitted battery, 3rd turn of the key ...vroom. Right we know it'll go. Get a very unwilling Mrs N to drive me out that weekend to get it, bringing all the gear. Check for engine start - bi...

Motorbike mechanic recommendation sought

Greetings, The Deau is coming home. Being a bit lazier these days, I'll require the services of a decent mechanic to replace fork seals. The tubes are good (sort of new, stainless), but the seals are leaking (not a lot, but enough to be detectable) so I'm going to assume the seals are shot because t...

Re: Boards Megathread - Read OP before posting.

Ok, I'll go first.... I try not to get embroiled in the so-called "discussion" threads. We all know those who go out of their way to cause mayhem, instead of allowing that different points of view can and must exist on any topic under the sun. On a positive note, I find the threads like DI...

Re: Think our crowd are bad.....

I was told a story decades ago by a then employee of CIE. New locos arrived and when they got to a particular Dublin main line station, they wouldn't pass the platforms. At the time I took it with a grain of salt, after all surely they passed lots of other stations on the way??? However, the origina...

Re: Suspension behaviour

Right , first off - Thanks folks for the comments. The bike in question was mine for 15 years. It's a 03 Deauville and even today only has about 27k miles on it.. I brought it to a mechanic about every three years for deep dive servicing. In the meantime I did plugs, oils, filters, pads, brake fluid...

Suspension behaviour

Daft question alert! A few years ago, I left a bike in for service and was told that the rear shock was suspect. Hmm, I never noticed anything wrong, although I think it may have bottomed out a bit harshly over ramps with a (very occasional) pillion passenger. At slower speeds you'd notice nothing. ...

I've just jumped off "that other place", where I was searching the latest posts when the Enoch Burke thread appeared as a most recent post. So, stupidly I opened it. There's one guy explaining his difficulty with the new religion that wants to tell him how to interact with transgender peop...

No it won't. I have that particular instrument ready and waiting to shove sideways up a beastly mods anal orifice at that time. We'll have to make do with the chorus of snickering from the cheap seats at the back to provide a soundtrack to the final curtain call. This three act play is drawing to a...

I suspect that TikTok was created by the Chinese to destroy US society. Twitter was hijacked by Russian bots for the same purpose.

Job done.

Mrs N doesn't know I got an insurance quote the other day, in preparation for getting back the motorbike I gave to my nephew nearly two years ago.
He has signed the Registration form for me.
This may be my last post.

Was given a demo of this last week. Son in law asked some questions and the thing responded using a "conversational" mode that was indistinguishable from talking to a human. One of the things I asked was "how can I be sure your answers are correct" . It gave a semi convincing ans...

These days I can see (occasionally all together): 2 Robins Anywhere between 6 and about 16 Goldfinches About 6 to 10 Bluetits What I think are about 4 linnets 3 or 4 sparrows 1 male blackbird About 12 feral pigeons, which refuse to be scared off. I've seriously contemplated capturing them and drivin...

Toast, butter and jam is the solution. aaah yes. Having missed luncheon today due to familial commitments (translates to: hanging wallpaper with 'the brother'), I fell into the sofa with: big mug of tea, two thick slices of sourdough toasted on one side under the grill then slathered in butter and ...

Anyone remember Crossroads, a soap about everyday life in a motel in the English midlands? It was so bad it was a must watch and developed a following of millions. Ran for about twenty years and never really got any better, I think it had a budget of about £5. I remember it being on the telly when ...

The only thing I hate more than turkey is...... sprouts. Unless they're parboiled and then thrown into the pan with chopped streaky bacon. Yum. Coincidentally, only last night, I was looking at a youtube video about cooking chestnuts. Might give it a lash, if I can find some. Regardless of my effort...
