Re: What are your biking plans once Covid is gone?

So I finally got round to driving up to Decathalon and picking up the tent. (None available online for some reason). I haven't put it up yet but it certainly looks and feels sturdy. Yes it's a little heavy but as you say that isn't an issue on the bike. I'll field-test it (!) properly once the weath...

Re: End of the cheese wire?

Dunno though about mainland Europe - I never noticed anything like the cheesecutters we have here on my travels. I'm off to France next week in the van and will be doing a fair bit of driving. I'll keep an eye out for them while I'm there. As an aside I wonder are there any accident stats relating t...

Re: End of the cheese wire?

Here's an interesting video I came across lately on the topic. Not a mention of a motorcycle anywhere though.

Re: The wost band ever?

Yep. Completely agree. I was in that arena in Pompeii in 2018 and was imagining how it must have been for them playing there. The sunburn must have hurt though... you could see the crew were going to suffer later. I stand corrected on Piper - the two stand as one in my mind as I got them at the same...

And for anyone who's interested here's where I'm leaving the bike in Spain. Can't wait!

Re: The wost band ever?

Back on topic, the bands I really disliked were the howling male misery performers of the late 1980s. Jimmy Somerville/Mick Hucknall et al.

Re: The wost band ever?

An often overlooked album by them. Suppose it doesn't help that it was released just before DSOTM. Yes but still Syd and pre the new era of Gilmour which transformed what they sounded like. But great stuff nonetheless. I taught my daughters to sing 'bike' when they were four. Now both proficient mu...

Re: Celebrities you have met/seen and were impressed

Tubs would be a friend of a friend, and before covid we'd have tended to drink in the same pubs - Toners, D&H, O'Donoghue's. Would often have ended up sitting around the same table as him. Dead sound lad, has a great sense of humour, loves his skinful of pints, and has no airs or graces. A high...

Re: Celebrities you have met/seen and were impressed

Long ago himself and I were straggling through an airport in London looking like refugees from Woodstock and near the end of some exhausting and convoluted arrangement of flights back from Asia when a big lanky lad came bursting through the anonymous crowds right up to us, gave us a cheer and two t...

Re: Celebrities you have met/seen and were impressed

Bruce Jones is the actor who used to play Les Battersby in Coronation Street. My wife had him walk into her when she was working in an antique shop in Dingle and a few years later he was on the same bus tour as us in Majorca. He looked very hangdog and embarrassed that anyone recognized him. Being I...

Re: Celebrities you have met/seen and were impressed

I used to work in a bar that was frequented by celebrities, so I've met a few in my time. Best was Marilyn Manson the afternoon before a gig, he was just finished his soundcheck and came in for a beer - no makeup, no "character" just seemed like a normal american dude. Reminds me of somet...

Re: This is what I did to my bike today

Any pics of that work sounds interesting 12v supply housing that fits in the tailpiece of the SV650. Which has exactly about zero space at the pointy end at the back. It's about the third iteration to see what would fit. Uses a cheap Halfords three socket thingy for the power supply. For the hell o...

Fitted the Garmin to my bike via a special bracket and a modded Garmin friction pad mount. My dry run with a Givi phone mount had too much vibration and I felt sure the Garmin was going to pop out any second Here's my attempt at same: Using it with a GPS pouch but much tidier than the original arti...

Re: What are your biking plans once Covid is gone?

So I've gone and done it. Booked the boat from Rosslare / Cherbourg on 2 April and return end of May. Balanced it out with Mrs. Itineo by booking the van for four weeks in from Mid July to Mid August. Now trying to find the email I got from the bike storage people in Bilbao to confirm with them that...

For me it has to be the hugely successful Foster & Allen. Thirty three years ago I thought I'd got away from it all and was doing a Greyhound Bus trip around Australia. Got on the bus first night from Sydney and the driver had them on the stereo... On the upside, the bloke sitting next to me in...

Celebrities you have met/seen and were impressed

As an antidote to the 'people you inexplicably hate' thread here's an opportunity to say something nice. Here's a few for starters. Lorraine Keane who I saw some years ago on the boat back from France with her husband and children. They were playing cards and seemed such a happy and contented family...

Re: The Road Rage Thread

Slightly different slant on this. Last march I was travelling into the local town on the bike (a bit noisy I'll concede but I'm no hooligan) and came up along a line of traffic stopped where a local farmer was driving his 100+ milking cows across the road. I slowly filtered to the front and stopped....
