Re: Intimate partner violence.
What is it with these women? I have read similar accounts several times over the years. Jesus Christ, beaten within an inch of her life at eighteen years old and still she went on to marry him. I'm sure I'll be accused of victim blaming here but have some cop on FFS, it's obvious this is a violent ...

Re: Hate Speech Law
People need to be "put down" for watching beheading videos and other violence? Jesus wept. As isha says, the camera exists and covers real life events which are often horrific. I don't hear anyone complaining about the mainstream media coverage of events like 9/11 where anyone watching it ...

It will be interesting to see what happens when the Sacred Cows of Irish society direct (and they will) homophobic or racist abuse towards others. They also have a habit of using "handicapped" as a form of abuse.

Re: Hate Speech Law
What I have on my PC and the reason I have it is my own business as long as I'm not harming anyone else or breaking any current laws. But with this new hate speech law, as per the spiked-online link above and RTE, I could be prosecuted for POSSESSING "hateful material". Would the Christchu...

Re: Hate Speech Law
I think I have the video of the Christchurch Mosque shooting on my PC. Whatever anyone's opinion on me having that, it is not illegal - but in a recent case where a right wing extremist was sentenced to 10 years for importing gun parts, posession of that video was used as "padding" in the ...

Can anyone explain what Grimes was at/trying to achieve there? I'm aware that he is a controversial character, was this actually meant to be some sort of bizarre museum or was there some other or sinister motive. I started a thread on the "Museum" years ago on boards and there were jokes a...

There's a big red flag with the stamped letter - in the subject line, Eimear O'Connor is not aligned with the rest of the text. Looks very much like this letter was sloppily altered after it was typed. Why was that? Limerick "Council" Council annoys me too - do these people not know the na...

Remember all that Gubernor does not allow spiteful or vindictive criticism of specific posters! I brought up that Golf thread as I think the absurd stuff in it is "par for the course" for certain posters and IMO it isn't spiteful to bring this up.

if I had a bad experience having previously had a good experience, I'd probably give them one more chance. If my first experience with them was bad, they'll be blacklisted with no expiry period and never used again unless I'm really, really desperate. I remember puking and sh*tting due to a food poi...

Re: Ireland's suicide epidemic
We're going to have a male suicide problem for as long as we treat men as utilities, workhorses and shame them for not meeting societal expectations. "He's a shortarse who still lives at home with his Mammy who probably does his laundry, probably a virgin with a small cock too, pathetic!"....

Re: Céad míle fáilte for Joe Biden
Turned on RTE and they were showing preparation of a green podium/stage in Ballina. Staff scurrying about. Music blaring. Shots of a gormless looking crowd waving flags. It looked cheap, chaotic and amateurish. Maybe I'm judging it harshly, it's hard to make Ballina look like an impressive venue and...

The hysteria was almost as bad for Obama. But mercifully he was only here a day. The Queen's visit had wall to wall coverage but the tone of that coverage was more measured and sober. The fawning and arse licking seems very bad this time. Although it might just be that I am older and more cynical n...

Re: Boards Megathread - Read OP before posting.
Can we say anything/nothing negative about specific posters? For instance I called a boardsie a Walter Mitty above and can back that up with evidence from their own posts,. If we could all move away from talking about boards, it would be good. But even with all its problems, boards is still a big pa...

Re: "Vintage" 1990s PCs
486s seem to be particularly sought after? Probably many people's first pc during the 90s boom, memories of playing Doom and using the Internet for the first time etc. Would have been easy enough to hoard a good few of them. Easier than hoarding Mk1/2 Ford Escorts anyway. Sony Trinitron CRTs are ano...

I've started thinking about my collection of 80s and 90s PC junk again and was looking on donedeal and adverts.ie for parts and systems. Could find nothing on either and ebay asking prices are bonkers. e.g. this ould 486 base unit in Slovakia for 1139 euros (albeit with postage included) and the lis...

Re: Sinn Fein - a picture paints a thousand words
Referencing the famine is like the Irish version of referencing the Holocaust/Nazis. Given their own dubious history, Sinn Fein of all people should realise the pitfalls of doing such a thing. Also, such an inflammatory depiction could embolden some of the lunatics out there to attack Gardai - like ...

The long disused MW mast (290 metres) near Tullamore is still standing as per a post on boards yesterday. There was a tendering process for its removal some time ago but still there.

Re: Some thoughts on Bullying in the workplace
I don't know if I've ever been bullied in the workplace - but like many people in office environments I have been undermined, patronised, gaslit and experienced passive aggressiveness. E.g. I busted my balls on a project, did 90% of the work and it worked out great. Then I got thanked by my boss for...

Members of the public are saving items from recycling centres? That is great but I'm very surprised to hear that it happens. For several reasons - loss of revenue (scrap value of metal etc), fears of liability if someone injures themselves with an item that they took home, chaos from people rooting ...
