Re: Projects on the go.

In 1966 my grandfather wrote his memoirs of growing up in Irish village 1890 - 1904. The original manuscript was lost. But I managed to track a copy of same that eventually made its way to me. So it is now up on Amazon as was cheapest way to circulate copies to his descendants. Kept other half busy ...

Re: Plants You Really Don't Like

yep kids used to play sword fights with the leaves and they seem to drop all year round... neighbours lot would fall my way. I think they only thrive on a line diagonically south from Clontarf but so alien in this country and we are blessed with being able to grow so much better.

Re: Plants You Really Don't Like

I hate cordelyne (sp?) and had to dig out two in this house when we moved in along with a line of leylandii. The roots went on down and down and I gave up after a bit and they never came back. They seemed to be a fashion item for gardens in the 1970's? I also dislike buddleia even tho favourite for ...

Colour 35 mm slides to digital

I have a few hundred slides of my own and now have inherited another batch. Any advice on getting them onto digital format? Years ago I was quoted 10 cent a slide but now it is much more so what of the DIY scanner devices for slides? Are results as good as a professional job? I have heard it can be ...

Re: Anybody using a Water Butt? Wondering what it’s like in Irish weather.

I keep two going and keen gardener so I appreciate the better quality water for plants and the ease of filling a watering can, less strain on back, dunking it in open trough topped up by waterbutt. I have them located in a sheltered south facing corner so never had any problem with cracking. I have ...

Re: Washing machines - what to look for in a new one?

I use a 40 degree wash with extra rinse cycle and 1400 spin speed and it take one hour 11 mins. I like the fact that there is a timer telling you how much time is left til finished. It is an 8 kg load capacity. The dishwasher seems happy to do a 'quick wash' and that takes 29 minutes. It is a soft w...

1940/50's theatre programs

I have a set of programs mostly ballet/music from 1940's London and then Dublin in 1950's mostly Gate Theatre. Would anyone collect these? It seems a pity to dump them.
