So long, Farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, Adieu, Goodbye!

#1

Post by Del.Monte »

Shortly after joining GUBU in July 2021 I made contact with a number of the main posters to see if they were here for the long haul or what - i.e. was it worth while putting in the effort required to make the forum a success. The answer at that time was yes but, sadly, since then many have left for various reasons and those that remain rarely post any more. Membership of the forum has never reached the critical mass necessary for a broad range of topics to be discussed and instead we go round and round on the same topical issues - Covid - Trump - Ukraine - Gaza - Covid - Trump... and it has become terribly wearing! It seems to be a combination of factors with the vast bulk of people seemingly more interested in a rubbish platforms like Facebook/Twitter/Snapchat etc. than having a proper discussion on a message forum.

I just don't get it but then I am an old school dinosaur that has been active since the 1970s writing to newspapers since before I left school, publishing newsletters, running voluntary societies etc.etc. I believe that we only pass this way but once and are obliged to make the most of it but clearly that is a minority view and Facebook likes are the most important thing in life. I'm afraid, to paraphrase Monty Python, "this forum wouldn't Voom if you put 4 million volts through it." and so I take my leave of you - best of luck to everyone - Del Monte has left the building.

One of Gubu's longest and most regular posters calls it a day a it garners 2 responses. It really does sum up this site these days. Virtually moribund

Fair play to you for making the effort and for keeping going for as long as you did.

Goodbye 👋🏻
Think when Isha left the site died.

Modern age I do find these message boards slow.
On Reddit , discord or Lemmy there are instant notifications on the app and it's just easier to post.

I would suggest a Gubu slanted telegram , Reddit or discord. Saw another message board do this and it worked well to help the site.

Del Monte is a significant loss to this platform, he will be dearly missed. Meanwhile there are illiterate re-reg numpties polluting this site, origin(s) invariably from the Galway region. And their plentiful brethren, terminally alcoholic waster(s) dreaming up elaborate lifestyles from obese squalor of Knocknacarra bedsit. I would put a bob on a flashy customer being a pathetic facsimile of yesteryear my son, if you believe in "reincarnation" dude.

Considering this site now has about half a dozen regular posters I'm intrigued as to who all these re-regs are

It's hardly Facebook likes that's causing the low engagement here.

That's a pity but can't argue with you, if the admins didn't ban a lot of users - over *nothing* [this place is not much better than boards for it's strict moderation] then it would have had more of a chance.
