Saving the planet by walking and cycling....
You couldn't make it up. This is how dopey Eamonn Ryan and the Greens are going to reduce Ireland's greenhouse gas emissions. Money being poured into mini roads (greenways) and cycle lanes while everything else is let go to hell in a handcart. Nothing for railway development save for re-announcing the same old crap about new stations in the Cork area - which in turn will probably bugger up mainline services into Cork in the same way as Belfast and Rosslare services into Dublin already are.

Yeah........and thanks to Ryan you may be shortly able to cycle from Dublin to Cork and beyond, and save the planet....whoopee.
And now you can speed along on scooters too at 60 kph no helmet , no ,tax, no insurance and no testing, in among busy traffic.

Yes, but it seems to be the only tool in Eamon's box...the answer to all our transport needs. The man is turning out to be a worse transport minister than Shane Ross - and that's really saying something.

Well, we have grenways all over creation now, so it wont be long.
You can already walk the greenways from Dublin to ballymahon. Wont be long before Eamonns ego needs pampering with the next leg.

The sooner CIE close the Athlone/Galway line the better as it's holding up the lycra brigade and their plans to extend the Mullingar/Athlone greenway.

Eamon Ryan has no idea what happens outside the M50 and how life works in the country.
We'd do a lot better by putting that Greenway money into proper bus services and park and ride facilities. I'm saying that as someone who likes cycling.
From listening to him, his former life as a Dublin cycle tour business owner keeps coming out.

Re: Saving the planet by walking and cycling....
You both have valid points but Ryan's reluctance to go for for proper, long term rail projects (outside Dublin) and instead kick the can down the road by commissioning yet more useless reports speaks volumes. Money for cycling, greenways and painting lines on roads for busways doesn't cut it for me as an environmentalist as it will do nothing to reduce emissions, nothing to to improve our transport infrastructure for the projected population growth or provide for proper decentralisation. The Greater Dublin region is already dangerously over populated in terms of housing, water supply and the possible future need to abandon low-lying areas due to rising sea levels....anyway I'm out for the night.Mountain wrote: ↑Thu Oct 28, 2021 10:28 pm Go to Kerry, and particularly South Kerry, battling a handful of farmers for years to get the greenway to Cahersiveen.
People in Glencar and Glenbeigh don't know what "park and ride" means. It's a non issue. Sure more busses would be great, but it's not like the greenway is leading to a worsening of public transport there, it's non existent anyway.
