Serrated Knife
In the forlorn hope that somebody here maybe able to point me in the right direction...
I have this very useful faux bone handled knife in my cutlery drawer and it's unusual in that it has a serrated/indented edge - ideal for cutting bread, meat etc. However, it has a damaged handle and I can't find anything remotely similar online - eBay, Google...but mine can't be the only one ever made.
On the blade it is marked D J Delahanty & Sons, Kilkenny - possibly the shop name or were they distributors? Elsewhere on the blade the name (FIRTH-BREARLEY) appears - probably the manufacturers - and the patent is given as Granton.
More about Harry Brearley, the inventor of stainless steel cutlery here: https://wisconsinmetaltech.com/the-fath ... el-part-2/
All that aside, where can I get a replacement knife or get a new handle fitted - it was damaged when left down on the edge of the Stanley. Thanks in advance.

Re: Serrated Knife
Might see something here Del. I've purchased a pocket knife off them recently. Good quality.

Its just another old tool so you just knew I was going to reply
Now the big question is has the knife been sharpened into the edges of the indentations over long use or are the indentations to make a type of serrated blade? Maybe the indentations/dimples were originally ornamental?
That sort of embellishment is rare but does turn up on high end knives.
As suggested by Ncdjd2 Knives and Tools have this for example https://www.knivesandtools.ie/en/pt/-wu ... 131317.htm where the dimples are mostly ornamental.
I think you may have invented a serrated bread knife by continued sharpening?
The reason I don't think it was made as a bread knife is the handle. I feel a bread knife handle would be more substantial. Some indication of scale would be handy.

Re: Serrated Knife
Thanks for all the info! I wonder where I might get a handle replaced as the knife blade is like new.?

Re: Serrated Knife
Replacing handles isn't that difficult. That knife will probably have a pointed tang that goes into the handle and good chance it will knock off and could be replaced with a wooden handle. If all else fails you can mould a resin handle onto it.

I reckon kadman would know of someone/somewhere that could do that for you in Ireland, but he seems to be having a week off.

Sugru might be good to repair it? It's great stuff.

Re: Serrated Knife
Thanks, but it still functions perfectly and I really want an original type handle re-fitted to it.
