So where are the events happening in your part of the world for bike Week?

Come on all you key board warriors, get out from in front of your screen & get yer botty on a bike!

Meanwhile in Athenry
Pedal Parade, Sunday 12th, 4pm Athenry Market Square. (pimp your bike, dress up, & take a big, family friendly, pedal around the town, prizes for best dressed bike)
Bike to Basics, TBC, The Bike Shop Athenry, ( Free bike Clinic to learn the basics about bike maintenance)
Poetry in Motion, Wednesday 15th of September, Meet in Athenry Market Square 6:30pm, a fun cycle around the parish with poems along the way, to celebrate both bike week & the fact athenry is a Poetry Town this year. Suitable for folk who hardly cycle, or haven't in years as it's just a few miles with plenty of stops, poems & craic. Do remember your lights as we'll be returning at dusk
Wee-Wheelers. 12pm , Athenry Park. A fun cycle morning in Athenry park for tots who can't quiet pedal on a big bike. Face painting & goodies, bike games suitable for 2-6 yr olds on balance bikes & trikes

Which canal?: yesterday did from Shannon Harbour to Pollagh and then down to L Boora for coffee and back to S'bridge via the 357 to beyond Cloghan and dropped back down on the canal. Picnic along the way
Hard on the arse for a lot of it till near Pollagh.
47 kms, on e bikes

It was the royal canal from Ballinea, Mullingar, towards Ballinacarrigy. Its beautiful there along from the 26th lock to Ballinacarrigy, 10 locks in 10km. Its a very large fall from 1 level to the end. Iknow Boora as well, its class. :)

Our primary school are having their annual bike safety week where members of cycle safely group (not sure of exact name) come in to talk about road safety and bike maintenance. The kids all bring in their bikes and helmets. It's great and a good way of encouraging kids to cycle while at the same time teaching good habits at young age.

Just cycled from Coolnahay bridge all the wya to Ballinacarrigy harbour. * kms there and 8 kms back
I would say its a mixture of cinders path , and tarmac the nearer to Ballinacarrigy. This morning it was mostly walkers and a few cyclists.
The path also has shared access with cars due to the few houses along the canal. Its a quiet out of the way route, with more locks per km than any other canal cycle I was on.
