The Bird Table book by Tony Soper. First published in 1965 and covers everything from bird tables to nest boxes - more information than you could shake a stick at. Avoid all the common mistakes that well intentioned newcomers to feeding the birds make. Multiple editions and cheaply available online.

Just bought a copy of this for a friend in Northern Ireland - online from Waterstones, Belfast.

I still haven't seen a Great Spotted Woodpecker myself and I'm probably the last person in Ireland not to see one. :(

I'm not bothering getting anyone gifts this year, cuts down on the hassle, none of Earth's resources used and the packaging. Job done :mrgreen:

I've told everyone that's getting anything from me that I'm going to spend Christmas making their presents, and they'll receive them whenever the logistics work out ... :geek:

Except for SonNo.2, for whom I had something specific in mind since last year, so that was ordered direct from the factory-workshop.

I find it increasingly hard to think of appropriate gifts for those still on my "Christmas List" as they live lives that are increasingly detached from my reality (or mine from theirs). And I refuse point blank to offer filty lucre as a special-occasion gift. :evil:
