Waxwings are back!

#1

Post by Del.Monte »

Only a few so far but the cold weather usually forces them out of mainland Europe. I haven't seen any since c.1972/73 and I have tried, missing them by just a couple of hours in Enniscorthy a couple of years back. They are exquisitely beautiful and worth travelling to see if they are nearby. They love berries - mountain ash and cotoneaster are particular favourites. If you have any of these nearby it might be worth keeping an eye out.

My thanks to Cian Cardiff of 'The life of An Irish Birder' https://www.facebook.com/groups/1000082526790100

for permission to use this photograph which he posted a few minutes ago. :D
