Live Chough Webcam from Mizen Head
Heard this mentioned on RTE this morning and it sounds worth looking in on. As usual RTE were trying to sensationalise the story by emphasising that Choughs are an endangered species and they must be being forced from their usual breeding sites - remote sea cliffs - by human activity. Judging from the increasing number of photographs on FB and elsewhere in recent years it would seem that they are doing quite nicely and, if anything, the spread into breeding in buildings rather than sea cliffs is a symptom of this. Whatever, the webcams should provide lots of interesting information.
Sorry, but the NPWS in their wisdom have decided to prevent playback of the stream on other sites.

Wow ... my favourite part is the part with the empty nest ... in a box ... where nothing happens...

Yes, hilarious but if you're remotely interested you will return and perhaps be lucky enough to catch some action.

Thanks del never knew what a chough was. Have you ever seen one? Are they as smart as crows. 19 people watching it must be interesting to some people.

Well, apparently it's the first time that Choughs have been captured on a webcam and once things get going it should be fascinating stuff.knownunknown wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 5:26 pm Thanks del never knew what a chough was. They are members of the crow family and usually only to be found in remoter districts in the south and south west. Also in parts of Cornwall and the Isle of Man. I've seen a good few down the years but sadly not in Enniscorthy. Maybe I should buy a peanut feeder.

Congrats on chough snooping
In passing, I'm nearly certain I came across choughs in The Alps in the 60s & 70s

Might have even been Alpine Choughs - main difference being they have yellow bills instead of red ones. Crows of all kinds are so intelligent and fascinating to watch.

There's one having a snooze on the webcam now (22.45) but it just looks like a bundle of feathers.

There's two in there again.
They seem to be building the nest and getting it ready.
I should be studying.
