Re: Nature photos
Nice pics and scarce enough to see Yellowhammers on the ground in my experience - usually singing at top of a high tree. Just plain scarce these days.

Re: Nature photos
We've got flocks of them here with all last years corn fields still in stubble. It seems to keep them going over the winter.
One nice thing I witnessed yesterday was a Skylark rising and singing at the end of the new runway at Dublin Airport. We do have Skylarks in the stubble fields too when the corn starts growing again but unfortunately the fields get ploughed in spring so their nesting is in vain.

Several recent sightings of Snow Buntings on Bray Seafront in recent days. They are scarce Winter visitors to Ireland: https://birdwatchireland.ie/birds/snow-bunting/ This photo by a 'very' old friend of mine who wishes to remain anonymous,

Re: Nature photos
Outbid on a nice Kingfisher painting at an auction up north tonight and so bought this 1950's poster on eBay to console myself. Part of an educational series by the English artist, Roland Green (1890-1972), and will look really nice when framed. The image is far sharper and more colourful than my screen grab and it's a decent size too (20" x 17") - €13.96 including p+p.

Closely followed by this poster by the same artist today - shopping always cheers me up a bit. Not strictly photos but they are pretty pictures.

Re: Nature photos
I can remember seeing both those pictures. They might be illustrations in a book but I suspect they might have been posters on a classroom wall at school - long long ago. So I wonder if they were educational posters.
.... So went looking and found this nice little compelation of classroom nature posters https://www.pinterest.ie/robynnsheehy/s ... e-posters/ some others there from the same series ------ MORE TO COLLECT
.... And another link https://duckduckgo.com/?q=Macmillans+Po ... &ia=images suspect they were published by Macmillans?

Yes, they were published by Macmillans and were schoolroom posters - happy memories of them way back in the 1960s. I might eventually donate some of them to my kids local national school.

Re: Nature photos
Another cheat I'm afraid and not even a native species at that. I bought this wonderful male Mandarin duck painting on eBay this morning - just £38 including p+p - and I'm using it for my Vistaprint Easter card.
Although non-native Mandarins are regularly seen on ponds and rivers in the east of the country some are probably escapees but there's evidence that some are genuine migrants (probably from the UK where they were introduced from China) and breeding has been recorded here. As usual the male has all the finery and the females are a drab brown in comparison.

According to this site you can. If your out sitting in a field you could add a few leaves to spice up the ham and cheese sambos

Two Orange tip butterflies resting on ribwort plantain. That's the best photo I could get with the breeze.
Re: Nature photos
Another not a great photo moment. Cock pheasant in the background. There are a lot around this year that overwintered from the local gun club releases. Seen some pheasant chicks one day last week, nearly ran over them!
Re: Nature photos
No photo as I was on the bike. I spotted a red squirrel trading across the mountain bike path. By the time I stopped and dug out the phone, he was gone up the trees. Nice to see them rather than the grey
Re: Nature photos
This chappie popped in to my garden this week, and he is a regular site almost daily. I was surprised by his/her size, it was nearly the size of a sliced pan.
I never realised they were as big. It was not a bit shy at all and stopped its journey across the garden for a photo shoot. It never flinched at all when I lay down on the grass to take the pic. It just sat there happily.

Marsh Orchid. Always have a couple around the place the past few years. No idea where they originated from.

Re: Nature photos
That's a brilliant picture of that frog
So I think the balance of the Universe needs to be restored with this really crap photo of the old cranky hare who lives in my garden and who always dodges my camera.
