Slightly disagree and say proper dining cars for routes with First Class. Like Dublin Cork which had single dinner meal for €15. Eddie Hobbs reviewed it back in the day.

Back in the day (1970/80s) most routes had 1st class. The type of trains on all routes bar Dublin/Cork and Dublin/Belfast don't have the proper facilities to provide 1st class or dining - a legacy from the railcar fetish of the previous IE supremo - Dick Fearn. To make matters worse the hundreds of new carriages now starting to arrive are the same sardine tins - with no thought for catering, bicycles or parcels. Parcel/mail traffic will have to return to the railway as night follows day but those in authority have their heads where the sun don't shine.

"Lunch Time Live" Andrea going to talk about porn shortly - should be priceless. Topics today included the Christmas Office Party - how could I have guessed that Andrea would be a big fan of them.

Somebody just won €111,111.11 on the cash machine. I would love to know lots of things about this such as how they pick the numbers to ring? How many people gamble on this thing? Do they have a permit to run this lottery/prize draw etc.....

In this morning's programme we learnt that Ciara Kelly would love to take off her clothes in an event like that at Bondi beach......Greystones would never be the same again!

Radio off now and my spirits have lifted. There's only so many decades of Pat Kenny blathering on that one can take.

Cuddihy being well and truly put in his box this evening by Cork City councillor Ken O'Flynn who doesn't believe that Ukrainian refugees should get better treatment than Irish citizens. Ciaran didn't like somebody not following the woke agenda.

Now he's busy doing his best to promote air travel with Newstalk's competition sponsored by Dubai. Next up a segment on global warming...

10am news includes lazy, direct lifting of the sensational BBC news report of the cataclysmic train crash in Spain. First rule of journalism used to be to garble the facts now it seems to be lift whatever they can from wherever they can with no checking the story.

Got to admire Ciara and Shane's attempts to whip up weather hysteria this morning. Ciara skidded all over the motorway on her way to work from leafy Greystones. Is there anything this woman won't do for her listeners and don't forget that she spent ten years broadcasting from her hot press during the Covid pandemic.

PS Don't forget that if you're one of the three cars likely to use the Timahoe/Portlaoise road today - be careful out there!

Now some useless hand wringing - woe is me - about laser attacks on pilots trying to land at Dublin Airport. And, who would have thought it, it could cause a plane to crash. How about Newstalk doing something about it? Why not take some of the thousands the disgusting cash machine is raking in and offer a substantial reward for information leading to the conviction of the pond life concerned. There's no honour among scumbags and it wouldn't be long before collars would be felt by the Gardai.

High powered laser pointers should be licensed and anyone caught with them without a licence receive a large fine / prison term. Cannot understand the mentality of anyone who would target aircraft pilots like that. Absolute scum.

Andrea Gilligan plumbed new depths in blondness today with a piece on 'do the media hype up weather events?' Talk about playing both sides of the argument as she and others on the station (CK in particular) have been busy hyping up the weather all week.

No less than one would expect from the Newstalk Cash Machine/Killinaskully FM.

Newstalk making a meal out of the death of the Irish soldier in the Lebanon and of course Ciara Kelly has angle. It's a tragedy for all concerned but soldiers know what they are signing up for and lets not wallow in it. Ciara wonders will the Irish battalion be withdrawn due to the shooting -WTF? This sort of stuff should be left to the experts like Joe Duffy.

Pat Kenny interviews the Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces and looks for exact details of what happened and is put back in his box. The tabloid, voyeuristic approach of the Irish media knows no bounds - the smell of cordite is still in the air in Beirut and Pat wants exact details ffs.

More rubbish this morning from 'noostalk' CK who can't be bothered to find out how to pronounce Killeagh in east Cork (in relation to the Lebanon tragedy) - it's pronounced 'killer' NOT killagh. But, worse to come when she addresses co-host "the most decent person that I know" .....glad I hadn't eaten my breakfast yet.

I see Coleman has now added architecture to his area of expertise as he dismisses the St.Stephen's Green Shopping Centre as being of no architectural merit whatsoever. Is there anything that this pair don't know about?

Jonathan Healy positively ecstatic at all the problems in the UK and the Meghen & Harry nonsense. His anti-British bias as bad as ever but if some British radio station was daft enough to offer the insufferable bore a job he wouldn't stop to switch off the lights on his way to the airport.

Pat Kenny (Jonathan Healy) today: The Harry and Meghen story - are we sick of it he asks. Yes, so why keep hyping it on Newstalk.
At least he has former BBC Royal Correspondent Jenny Windsor on and she talks a lot of sense - Harry just go away with your lovely wife and your money and enjoy life..

Shane Coleman had An Post CEO, David McRedmond, on the show this morning and, unsurprisingly, failed to land a glove on him. He could have asked him how many letters he delivers to justify his €250,000 salary. McRedmond was on the show to try and justify the company increasing the cost of a National letter stamp from €1.25 to €1.35 in the face of declining letter volumes. Am I missing something here - a €250k salary and this guy can't see any correlation between the increasing cost of the service and declining usage? Of course he can but why should he care as when he's finished fecking up An Post he can swan off to pastures new.

According to Linkedin he's a busy lad:

Currently CEO at An Post, Ireland's national postal organisation, Non-exec Chairperson at Eir, Ireland's leading telecoms company, and NED at Premier Lotteries Ireland. Previously CEO at TV3, Ireland's leading commercial broadcaster, successfully sold to Liberty Global from PE ownership. Experienced CEO / General Manager across several sectors (media, telecoms and retailing) and markets (UK, USA and Ireland), in PLC, corporate and private equity owned companies.

This morning the 'Coleman & Kelly Laugh In' would suck the life out of you. So many irrelevant topics touched on so briefly that one is left dizzy but at least we have learnt that Shane is an expert on history as well as everything else. The old racism keeps rearing its head and we have the pair of them saying that we need a 'national conversation' so that we don't turn out having the problems experienced by other countries ...Lol. How could Ireland have problems, shure aren't we the holy, Catholic, neutral envy of the World....just let everyone who turns up in....what could possibly go wrong?

Newstalk Breakfast particularly annoying this morning as they try and report the Nepal air crash as if it were still breaking news. Ciara then launches into a piece about women being 'gaslighted' - had to look up the term on Google - another bs word and therefore beloved of broadcasters that try to sound hip.

Now it's scummy behaviour on the Luas - the gift that keeps on giving - no doubt the need for a transport police force will be dusted off and aired again....anything to get loads of fools texting the show.

And now Shane uses his latest cool phrase 'Jump the Shark' for the third time about the awful "Love Island" show and we haven't even got to the piece yet - can he use it again?

It's too late for Shane & Ciara but others may find this useful: https://www.plainenglish.co.uk/

8.47:
He must be reading this thread - still no item yet but he has just said "is Love Island losing its sheen?".

DM, can I be brave and suggest switching the radio off (preferably with a bomb)? I did that and my stress levels dropped.

And today Andrea Gilligan returns "Do we need a Transport Police?" how original.

There are so many Ads during the show that the topics being discussed interrupt the Ads.

Will she have Barry 'the bluffer' Kenny on?

Will she actually have the topic on at all?

So Andrea squeezed it in and it ran along the usual lines - bus drivers experiences; Andrea loves the sight of robocop type security she has observed on the Luas and on the DART - surprisingly I don't, and I don't think outsourcing security to a private company is a good thing and anyway their presence just gives an unpleasant feel to the journey while the scumbags just bail-out when they see them. Needless to say the chatter will run and run but nothing will done until someone is killed; then we can have candle lit vigils, grandstanding by various politicians, hand wringing by others and - perhaps - another mass.
