"Lunchtime Live" with Andrea Gilligan.

Poor Andrea sounds like a really nice person and probably fun to be around but every time she opens her mouth all I can hear is "I'm a blonde, I'm a blonde, I'm a blond, I'm a blon..?

For someone who hates newstalk, why do you listen in every day?

Like there's so much choice for current news/affairs - RTE1 or Newstalk. At least at bedtime and waking up time there's the BBC.

Highlights from today's show included Shane referring to "piss-ups" on two occasions and Ciara announcing definitively that "The Pandemic is Over" and "Feck off Gabriel Byrne". It was comedy as always but no real gold today.

Got to love the ongoing mangling of the language by media hacks. I just heard Andrea Gilligan "reached out" to some government department but later in same piece she "contacted" them.

"reach out" is a bugbear of mine, and I tend to correct people who say it...

Newstalk has been poor on humour recently but this morning Ciara Kelly welcoming public transport fares being reduced by 20% was a classic - this from a person who has occasionally taken the DART from her home in leafy Greystones. Of course if more peasants leave their cars at home Ciara will be able to whizz in and out town in her car more easily.

Followed up by comments from Shane Coleman - well known public transport advocate - saying that the money would have been better spent on providing more public transport.

The lamenting of the removal of Euro-cobble from outside Grogan's pub had me in stitches - I thought they were talking about the removal of something of historic importance not something laid down 20 years ago.

Interspersed with Ads for Viagra; 'Sam Shed' and man burglars - what is it with advertisements made by people with salt of de earth accents and ill fitting dentures? And Patronising Jamie Heaslip and his poxy LeasePlan Ad - would you buy a used car from him?

Lucky I'm in good form or I'd tell you what I really think.

Just listening to Irish Rail's Barry Kenny on with Kieran Cuddihy on his regular 'Bluffer's Guide to the Winter Olympics' slot - if ever a person was correctly cast this it as Barry is the supreme bluffer in his 9-5 job.

Sadly I missed most of the show this morning - shopping - as it was just warming up for possible gold when I had to go. Nonsense piece about the Ukraine with some former adviser to someone and then onto more nonsense about moving Dublin Port to Balbriggan (Ciara Kelly's input to this topic was stunning) and then the issue of Ciara's J1 Visa and all the boys in the USA. I may have to listen back. :D

Asterix made several appearances with Ciaran Cuddihy and Joe Molloy on a piece about Novak Djokovic this afternoon - oh why can't the Irish teach their children how to speak?

Sick of hearing promotion of 'Newstalk's Cash Machine' which is in fact a serious misrepresentation as it is in fact the Go Loud Cash Machine https://www.goloudnow.com/network as all the other station's listeners can also send in their cash - in other words the chances of winning are far less than if it were restricted to Newstalk listeners.

You couldn't make it up - Henry McKeen interviews girl at petrol pump about petrol prices and manages to skew the conversation to LGBT....She has to travel up north to see her new partner...Henry says "is he hot" and girl responds "yes, she is"...everything about Newstalk has to be politically correct. I couldn't care less about the girl's sexuality but isn't it incredible how Newstalk always manage to work the 'new' reality into everything. Surely I'm not the only one who has noticed this?

Newstalk on yet another recycle run - Unionists who are learning Irish (both of them) and back to one of Ciara's favourite topics - obesity.

"Paddy's Day" referred to on the news and then onto the Healy-Rae calendar nonsense with Adrian Kennedy (in for Andrea on "Lunchtime LIve") and he refers to them being dumped in the bin.....rubbish or recycling he's too lazy to specify....

Plus he has a voice like gravel - i.e. designed for silent radio.

I have listed to a few Rogan episodes if the guest is interesting to me. But there's such an enormous amount of great stuff out there. 'Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend' can be quite good - he had Tarantino on before xmas, and Elvis Costello! There's literally too much out there to even skim the surface. Not enough hours in the day!

12.30 ish and a flood of shouty, inane advertising - the highlight of which was Rory at Elephant Self Storage naught, naught and you can't sleep here - followed by a gay traveller who was on some reality TV show and now has a Masters degree (who doesn't these days) and the radio is offffffffffffffffffffffffffff

I don't get the whole podcast thing at all. My nineteen year old son listens to Rogan and a variety of other dickheads but wouldn't dream of listening to a radio documentary . ... I've given up suggesting that he broadens his horizons.

Newstalk Breakfast - late to the show today but at least I learnt that Ciara has very little body hair.

Apparently that tool Michael McDowell wants every old ruin in the country re-roofed - I'll have to listen back and find out what Ireland's leading conservationist has to say on the subject.
