Yeah, but much the same concept. You'd think any prospective producer would run a mile from the storyline.
Re: Old TV Comedy Series
On a slightly different note. Have RTE ever managed to produce a decent sitcom. Of the top of my head I can't think of one
Re: Old TV Comedy Series
^^^^ there was a series based on two fellas in a CIE signal box. 1960s.
Can't find much about it though on YouTube

Re: Old TV Comedy Series
A post on the WTF thread about a possible neo-Nazi coup in Germany reminded my of my uncle who served there after the last war and how he maintained that he never met anybody that had liked Hitler. Then I remembered a similar line from Arthur Lowe about how he wondered how Hitler mustered a platoon let alone an army given his unpopularity. I couldn't remember what comedy show it was in - still can't - but instead found "Potter" which I had forgotten entirely and will now be revisiting. Arthur Lowe was a comedy genius.

Obviously not Dad's Army then? The only comedy with him that I was really familiar with.Del.Monte wrote: ↑Thu Dec 08, 2022 12:13 pm A post on the WTF thread about a possible neo-Nazi coup in Germany reminded my of my uncle who served there after the last war and how he maintained that he never met anybody that had liked Hitler. Man About The House was first broadcast by ITV on 15 August 1973.
50 years on. Still hilarious.

Upwardly Mobile. Another disastrous sitcom attempt by RTE. How this debacle ran for a number of series is nearly a greater sandal then the Tubridy payments
Re: Old TV Comedy Series
Know what you mean, but RTE do deserve a little credit for this series, even if I'm not sure it falls under the category of an actual sitcom.Happy Days wrote: ↑Tue Nov 01, 2022 11:18 pm On a slightly different note. Over the years, I must've watched the whole series several times and it still makes me laugh, especially the Pat Kenny redubbing for the Christmas special which PK gave his blessing for them to do.

We've come really so far - a sitcom just advertised on Channel 4 called The Neighbourhood - basic premise, a white family moves into a black area and they take the absolute piss out of him.
At least LTN was funny.

I watch an episode of Love Thy Neighbour on DVD every Monday evening. A great way to start the week.

It's hilarious
Miss Courtney was strangely sexy.
The stereotypes were spot on.
