Re: Old TV Comedy Series
"Brass" - an ITV satirical comedy series from the 1980s that wouldn't get made today. I'd forgotten just how good it was until I discovered all 32 episodes are available on YouTube. 10/10
Wiki summary: The series, created by John Stevenson and Julian Roach, was about two feuding families—the wealthy Hardacres and the working-class Fairchilds—who lived in a small terraced house rented from the Hardacre empire. The Hardacre family was headed by the ruthless self-made businessman Bradley Hardacre and his glamorous, alcoholic, aristocratic wife Lady Patience. Bradley spouted Thatcherite rhetoric, while coming up with harebrained schemes to make his businesses more efficient so he could sack workers. The head of the Fairchilds was the stern "Red" Agnes, who spread militant socialist rhetoric around the Hardacre mine, mill and munitions factory and her doltish, forelock-tugging husband George who is dominated by his wife and his boss. Agnes was also Bradley Hardacre's mistress.

A bit niche, but I used to love Butterflies with Wendy Craig - she was my first milf crush

Never heard of it. I'm on Episode 4, and I'm absolutely loving it!!!

Unfortunate timing. I remember it came out around the time of the miners' strikes in the UK and some of the PC brigades thought it was a bit near the knuckle.

Bread for me - absolute gem from dear Carla Lane who never penned a duff line ever.

I used to love watching the Sykes tv shows, "Sykes and a ,,,," with Eric Sykes and Hattie Jacques also Derek Guyler as "Corky" and Richard Wattis as Mr Brown. Sykes was a brilliant writer and was behind successful comedy efforts by many other top ranked comics, including Tommy Cooper and Jimmy Edwards.
If you ever get a chance, watch "The Plank", not a word spoken in it but the genius of the pick of British comedians and comic actors of the 1960s make it a brilliant piece of comedy.

"Rhubarb" is another from Eric Sykes in the same vein and possibly even better than "The Plank".

Happy Days
Fun Fact: There was even a tiny snippet of an episode as part of the movies on the Windows 95b CD as supplied with our Gateway 2000 pc back in the day

That was the music video of Weezer’s ‘Buddy Holly’. Pretty awesome music video too considering it wasn’t CGI stuff. They cut original clips from Happy Days with footage of the band performing. I remember selling PC’s to people at the time and showing that video to them was all it took for them to add a CD-Rom drive, Sound Blaster card and a set of speakers to the order.
Re: Old TV Comedy Series
I'll put it in, the old Irish series now
Fr Ted.
I seem to be keeping a few threads alive right now here on gubu.

June Whitfield was a fine looking woman. Best in 1972's Carry On Abroad.
Terry & June was very enjoyable; Terry a bit of an arrogant buffoon though.
Their previous venture Happy Ever After (1974-1979) had plenty of laughs too.

<BUMP>
Mork & Mindy
Robin Williams as a loony alien before his acting career blew up. On before The Six Million Dollar Man on RTE 1 back in the day. Some memorable episodes.
TAXI with Andy Kaufmann as a mad mechanic. Can't recall any memorable episodes. More of a feel good show showing better aspects of a grim profession in New York.
Air ????? ..... with Ted Danzon.

Just Good Friends, with Jan Francis and Paul Nicholas. A story of the rocky road to romance rekindled. Great characters and good fun.
Re: Old TV Comedy Series
Yeah, made Mrs Brown's Boys look sophisticated. Anna Manahan must be turning in her grave knowing she was involved with such shite but par for the course for RTE, I mean they think Joe Duffy is entertainment. it's a wonder Fr Ted was ever made after this.Happy Days wrote: ↑Tue Nov 01, 2022 9:26 pm Leave it to Mrs O'Brien.
