Really, really boring movies!
I was talking to my youngest son this morning about buying the original version of E.T. for his mother and it brought back memories of just how awfully dull it was. I was struggling to remember another dreadful Sci-Fi movie but couldn't remember its name, just that nothing happens in it and then the credits roll. If you haven't guessed already - it's below. Both are regarded as classics but give me a bad episode of the original Star Trek or Dr.Who any day - the only good alien is a dead one! We come in peace, shoot to kill.

The only thing I remember from that is one character "playing with his food", making a mountain from mashed spuds.
Yes it's one boring arse film.....

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Give me a Micheal Caine spy film any day to that.

More or less anything with Tom Cruise in it ...thinking in particular of the "Mission Impossible" franchise and the awful remake of "War of the Worlds".

Re: Really, really boring movies!
I like most of the films mentioned above. I loved Close Encounters, and give me a period drama like Sense and Sensibility and I'm happy out. If I'm wondering what to watch I will reckon a Tom Cruise film will be at least entertaining. Hmmmm... what have I found boring? That Live, Love, Pray, Eat thing with Julia Roberts. Great Gerwig's version of Little Women nearly had me in tears it was so bad. And boring. I found The Simpsons boring and irritating, which made me the odd one out in the family. Homer Simpson is a pain. I'll remember other boring things later.

Once Upon a Time in the West.
Draw out, badly dubbed pish and that bloody harmonica.

Re: Really, really boring movies!
I'm a fan of Leone's but Once Upon A Time in the West is just self indulgent twaddle. The only good thing is Henry Fonda playing a nasty SOB
Re: Really, really boring movies!
Apocalypse Now is another that comes to mind and a warning of the kind of strange crap that gets made when the entire cast and crew are off their faces

Oh no, no...it's a fantastic movie - you might not like it but boring it ain't. I guess that you don't like spaghetti westerns?

The thread is about boring films e.g. ones where nothing happens - you can't possibly be serious about "Apocalypse Now"?Happy Days wrote: ↑Tue Nov 22, 2022 8:48 am Apocalypse Now is another that comes to mind and a warning of the kind of strange crap that gets made when the entire cast and crew are off their faces

Its all suppose its all subjective. For me its a boring mess of a movie. But I can see why others would enjoy it
Re: Really, really boring movies!
It is quite subjective. I was so delighted by The Power of the Dog that I got my husband to watch it with me the next evening and I couldn't hear it bytimes over the roar of his yawning.

The Great Gatsby
Lemony Snicket
Or any movie for that matter that you know well how it's inevitably going to end.

Re: Really, really boring movies!
"The Sting" (1973) is another movie where nothing happens. Despite the presence of Robert Redford and Paul Newman in the lead roles this is one big bore - the theme tune being the only redeeming feature.

Re: Really, really boring movies!
The Hudsucker Proxy with Paul Newman. Again, absolutely nothing happens.
Re: Really, really boring movies!
I'd have to agree with regards to the end of it. Geez that drags something stupid. The start is "wha?". The "smell of napalm in the morning" middle is OK. Once they arrive in the camp towards the end, it's a snooze fest....Happy Days wrote: ↑Tue Nov 22, 2022 8:56 am Its all suppose its all subjective. For me its a boring mess of a movie. Marley and Me. I was subjected to this last Christmas, thankfully I had consumed a large dinner which increased the soporific effect and the last third is just a blur.
Re: Really, really boring movies!
I must confess "Lord of the Rings" put me to sleep in the cinema it was that boring.....
Re: Really, really boring movies!
Himself has offered some suggestions - Maid in Manhattan and that "other steaming pile of sh*** with Affleck and J-Lo ....Gigli or something".
I tend to turn off boring movies so I can't remember the names of them.
