Watched Great American Railway journeys on bbc4 last night.
About the smallest original state in the US.
Eating lobster and how to cook it like the natives did.
Coverage about a naval academy - all interviewees there ended their talking to Portillo with SIR.

Re watching some of the old Go Fishing programs that John Wilson used to do on YouTube. He was funny without realising it, I wonder are the size of some of the species he's catching as big and plentiful now compared to when he filmed all these early episodes.

I've watched season 3 and season 4 now of The Crown. Finished season 4 last night. But I'm giving it a break now for a while. Charles is relentlessly portrayed as a hateful prick and, while I do think he was awful to Diana, I'm just fed up of the relentlessness of it now. Even the Queen is less likeable at this stage. If the royal family were even half or a quarter as bad to Diana as the series suggests, she had an awful life with them.
Thinking out loud, and trying to be occasionally less wrong...

Started watching the new season of The Crown. Two episodes in. Diana isn't that likeable in these ones.

Haven’t seen the crown but almost every male character in anything these days is a bumbling idiot or hate filled prick(usually some combination of the two) and every female character is a strong female character born perfect with no character development, no adversity and no struggle, ‘Mary Sues’.

"American Gangster" (2007) on DVD
Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington.
With those two actors, what's not to like but as Eamon Dunphy would say - good but not great. 7/10

As a short before the big movie I watched the first episode of "Porridge" (1974) starring Ronnie Barker and Richard Beckinsale. Still hilarious but wouldn't get past the pc brigade today.

The Toy Show. Thankfully the kids fell asleep around 10.30 so I was spared the last half of it

A documentary on BBC Scotland about the portrayal of Scottish culture in Films, the earliest one being made on 1934 about hunting the loch Ness monster. Other famous films with a distinct Scottish aspect covered were Trainspotting, 4 weddings and a funeral, a Star Trek movie (don't know which one) in the context of Scottie James Doohan

Watched a video on Frank Zappa in front of the PMRC senate committee hearings in 1985 on explicit lyrics in music. Compared to what's available now via smart phones and on the TV it seems very trivial. Anyway a great line from it - "The PMRC demands are the equivalence of treating dandruff by decapitation". For anyone interested.

"Robin Hood" (2010)

The Russell Crowe movie. A different take on the ever popular story legend of Robin Hood and his Merry Men. I enjoyed it and it didn't require too much concentration to follow the plot. A good evening's viewing - 50 cent as new DVD from a local charity shop - what's not to like.

Russell Crowe for a start. Rude, pompous, bad mannered prick are the only complimentary terms I could think of, so I had to stop before I got derogatory.
As for the film, great if you're a fan of British jingoism and giving what for to Johnny foreigner, otherwise, pure tripe.

Lol. That's me, the last person in the world who believes that, on balance, the British Empire was a good thing. Apart from that I like Russell Crowe and I love naval movies.

Aubrey–Maturin series are well worth a read and arguably one of the best historical - fiction series ever written.

And to their credit, they are far from jingoistic. Unfortunately Hollywood has a lot to answer for

You may all think I'm nuts, but I enjoyed Wurzel Gummage last night. The mature hedgerows and small fields of corn, the John Deere 3650 with full set of front weights and the crows. Yeah sometimes the storyline may be shit, but the scenery is enjoyable.

I’m watching Suits from the beginning.

Excellent stuff despite that cesspit of a woman in Me-gain.

"Hanna" (2011)

Another 50 cent DVD.

Thriller starring a 17-year-old Saoirse Ronan - a captivating performance as always. 10/10.
