Too healthy looking for me; two cups of cheap coffee injected fast - I haven't had a proper breakfast in years.

Re: Brekkie
Ah no, I use Flahavan's Organic Porridge Oats and properly nursed on the stove can be yummy but not as good as traditional overnight made porridge.

Re: Brekkie
Himself calls my porridge ''dessert''. I put grated apple (or pear or banana or mango), chopped dates and chopped almonds (or hazelnuts or brazil nuts) in with a good bit of cinnamon. Use milk and maple syrup to taste. Seriously it's gorgeous.
Most days I have eggs for brekkie with home made spelt bread. Or the above dessert.

Re: Brekkie
Has to be toast but I have the weirdest way of having it.
I have gluten free bread and do it twice in the toaster so its really brown and crispy then I let it go cold. Next I apply a thick and I mean really thick layer of Marmite. Finally I cut thin slabs of butter off the butter straight out the fridge and put them on top .

Re: Brekkie
Prefer Ready Brek myself, but 'tis fierce expensive here in France (if you can even find it) so I've got used to porridge made with Quakers Oats. Currently have 16 boxes of it in stock, because my preferred supermarket is giving away microwaveable glass containers in exchange for 20 points, and one box of oats gets a whole point all on its own (instead of having to spend 10€)

I don't know if I can participate in a thread with this level of weirdnessThe Continental Op wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 9:25 am Next I apply a thick and I mean really thick layer of Marmite. Finally I cut thin slabs of butter off the butter straight out the fridge and put them on top .

Re: Brekkie
Its developed over many years. Started because I can't stand the mess you get trying to spread Marmite on hot buttered toast. If you have as much butter or spread as I like and as much Marmite you can't fail to end up with a brown mess on your toast. With it all cool and the Marmite on first it doesn't all get mixed up.
Re: Brekkie
I think its quantity of gluten. I'm not gluten intolerant but too much and I really feel the effects which kick off what I think of as a sort of IBS reaction.
Spalt bread is normally OK but too much of it and I get symptoms, gluten free bread (and I've found one I actually like) I can eat all day with no ill effects.
Edit.........
This is the one I found which I like, Dunnes at a shocking €3.35

So "oatmeal" and "oats" then! Reminds me of the gluten-free shampoo I saw on sale in a US supermarket!
Re: Brekkie
I researched that when I first saw gluten free shampoo and its the usual con with the caveat that some people who are allergic to wheat may come up in a rash with shampoos that have gluten in them.CelticRambler wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 12:17 pm "Gluten free oatmeal ... Gluten free oats"

Despite not having had a proper breakfast in years I do love a good fry up - especially the Ulster Fry with potato bread, tomatoes and mushrooms. Beans are a big no-no! I'm getting hungry now - may even have to consider buying a frying pan again.

Ah Del ... that's awfully mean of you, to put that photo up. I can replicate most of that (I have several frying pans!) but proper rashers just aren't sold in France and proper sausages are not much easier to get hold of, so no chance of recreating the experience here.

+1 Its porn !CelticRambler wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 1:36 pm Ah Del ... that's awfully mean of you, to put that photo up. No, its worse than porn
I see some posts concerning gluten free oats.
Some coeliacs react to gluten free oats and others dont
( Just so y'all know )
Myself, I react to gluten free oat flour that is used in some biscuits. ( I dont have the courage to experiment with straight gluten free oats )
Re: Brekkie
Doesn't that depend on what you call a proper sausage?CelticRambler wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 1:36 pm .... and proper sausages are not much easier to get hold of, so no chance of recreating the experience here.
Perhaps the french think there should be more than 42% pork "meat" in a pork sausage ("" because meat just means bits of pig)
