Cooking Turkey.

#1

Post by JONJO THE MISER »

I'm reading a few different things on line about how many minutes per pound, some say 15 and more say 20.
Turkey just went in there now but I'm unsure which timing to do.
Any suggestions?

20 minutes per every kilo is what I go for Jonjo. I usually add an extra hour onto it to be safe.

Oh ok cheers, I have a 6.5 kg turkey so gonna leave it in for 4 hrs 10 minutes.
Went in at 8:50 so out at 1:00 and rest for 40 minutes.

I cooked mine yesterday, 20lbs. I take the legs, wings, and popes nose off it then just cover with foil, 40 mins at 200⁰C, then turn to 180⁰C for another 40, remove foil and leave it at 180 until it hits 74⁰C on the thermometer. The limbs get cooked separately at hotter temperatures.

Well that came out fantastic, rested it for a hour after the oven and just finished eating now.

If the person cooking the turkey asks "WHO LIKES THE PINK MEAT?" then I recommend you leave.
