Good news from NI... https://www.mag-uk.org/the-beginning-of ... d-victory/

I wonder will it help progress the cause south of the border?

Took a long, long time to get that agreed.
Was it the early 90's that this was originally raised ?
IIRC the things continued to be installed even after it was widely recognized that they were lethal for bikers

Aren't they still being installed in RoI? I've never heard otherwise.

No longer do the crazy amount of driving that I used to have to so may be wrong here.

My impression is that the barrier of choice is the concrete 'wall' type with armco used where its not possible.

New strech of n4 I to Sligo is cheese wire all the way down the middle. First thing I noticed when I tried the road out.

Hard to credit that such stuff can be part of new design.

Wonder how it got spec'd ?

Here's an interesting video I came across lately on the topic. Not a mention of a motorcycle anywhere though.

Reckon the concrete barrier is the job.

I dont understand how the cheese wire barriers got back to being spec'd

All I can think is that the old designers have retired / died and there is a new generation that have been influenced by salesmen and need some counter education from Bikers.

Then again, there is always the longstanding issue with EU central having it in for bikes

Dunno though about mainland Europe - I never noticed anything like the cheesecutters we have here on my travels. I'm off to France next week in the van and will be doing a fair bit of driving. I'll keep an eye out for them while I'm there.
As an aside I wonder are there any accident stats relating to motorcycles and wire barriers either here or abroad?

I doubt if the stats would give that much detail.

Did a trip from North to South yesterday and first noticed one set of cheese wires on a junction on the M7 and then of course the whole of the central reservation of the M1 is three strands of cheese wire all the way.

Hard not to reach the conclusion that those in charge of our roads don't have much time for motorcyclists.
