Paul McCartney at 80!

#1

Post by quodec »

Paul is 80 on 18th June 2022! 80 years old!! He was out of The Beatles 52 years ago - and is still going strong, currently touring in the US. What a life he has had. Unfortunately, I've never seen him live. Any of you guys been lucky enough to catch him?

Sadly not but the sainted mother used to work round the corner from the Cavern and saw the Beatles a couple of times in her lunch break!!!

Closest I got was hearing stories about them from Cilla Black on ‘Blind Date’.

Saw him in the RDS 2003 and O2 in 2009 - both excellent gigs.

Has a seriously great back catalogue which I have bought more than once.

Favourite Macca albums
1 McCartney II (1980)
2 Ram (1971)
3 Band On The Run (1973)
4 Red Rose Speedway (1973)
5 Flowers In The Dirt (1989)

With all his back catalogue, it's amazing that, on Anton Savage's show on Newstalk on Saturday, they could not pick a song from Paul when they were marking his birthday. Somebody decided to play Here Comes the Sun, a Beatles song written and sung by George Harrison!

I haven't paid much attention to McCartney or music generally in recent years. I well remember Live 8 in 2005 and thinking "Jaysus, McCartney is getting old, he dyes his hair and all". Was only 63 then!

I think he does more than dye his hair these days, and maybe then too!

I have been looking at repeats of Top of the Pops from 1992 and 1993 recently and I see Paul made the odd appearance on Top of the Pops at that stage! I don't think he turned up on it for most of the 1980s.

Paul has turned up on Later with Jools Holland a few times.

On BBC1 last night, I watched a brilliant performance from Macca. 2.5 hours of classic tunes & stories. Great to see tributes to George & John. Highlights: Let Me Roll It, Helter Skelter, Live & Let Die, Maybe I’m Amazed, the two Sgt Pepper tracks & the Abbey Road finale.

Macca & Jagger... they never know when to put up their feet and call it a day!! Both still physically fit, both still want to play. They're in uncharted territory these guys. Who said 'I hope I die before I get old'? The Who, I think. Not a bit of it. All these old codgers in their 70s and 80s just want to keep on rockin!!

My hero Eric Clapton is 78 next year and I can’t imagine a time when he doesn’t rock the blues!!!!

The kids might be “alright” but they play - and like - shite music!!!

That's a generational thing, my mother said something similar about Elvis, and I said it about Rap, but I was right. :D

I'm a big fan of his. But that is just price gouging. You'd have thought he'd made enough cash by now

Plus 23% VAT and a handling fee on top of it. Thanks Brexit!

If it was half the price, I'd go for it.

In 2018, this cost €360 from his website. That was the RRP. Goes for over seven times that now.
