Post your musical instruments

I had to type all this out again because I feckin backspaced on the browser by accident.

This is a thread to post your musical wares, whether it's guitars, drums, bag pipes, banjos or your favourite set of spoons. Anything percussive or that makes a melody.

I still have a few guitars left, some buried in my room, or my poor sad looking acoustic guitar in the kitchen which I plan to restring at the weekend.

I've two below which have been now sold on. These are the Ibanez Jem 77 BFP ( Blue floral pattern ) and the Jem 77 PMC ( Purple multi colour ). One of these went for fairly big money as there were only 271 of them produced and there is a worldwide community of Jem guitar collectors looking for some of these.

Both have maple necks which are not heavily varnished like some other electric guitars. This is great when the fingers start to sweat as your not having stickiness issues which used to drive me mad. The tremolo system in both is a Floyd Rose low pro edge floating type system. I found some issues with this. If a string broke you were goosed as the tuning would go WAY off. This is why the ibanez guitars I kept are both fixed systems. Also on the tuning end of things you had to gradually bring up the tension on the strings, then when finally tuned stretch the strings and tune again. Once tuned they were a joy to play. But it took a long time to get the tuning stabilised. The pickups are Dimarzio.

Both guitars were purchased in America, not sure what part but the guy that brought them in used to have a music shop in Whitehall, Dublin ( Pat Dolan ). He used to drive a big American car and visited America alot so my dad paid Pat to bring them in for me when he was over there.

And here's a video of a headless me playing the BFP guitar along to a song called Air by Jason Becker. It was filmed on a sh1tty video camera set up on a chair with a pile of books hoping it would stay in focus. I make a bollix of some of it. A friend of mine used to play the harmony along with me. He's now in the states somewhere.

Are you sure you want to get me started?

Hot off the makers' stand (and I mean hot - it hadn't even had it's last coat of wax when I picked it up - my newest acquisition since Sunday is a Galician pandereta (tabourine) to join my Galician gaïta (bagpipes). Unfortunately, I got so distracted that same day learning how to string my second most recent acquisition - the hammered dulcimer (Bernese version) - that I missed out on the opportunity to buy a Jews harp too.

The pandereta shares percussion space with a bodhrán, a set of castanets, an African ceramic drum for which I don't have a proper name, and a regular drum kit.

The pipes share reed space with a range of tin whistles, an alto recorder and two piano accordions (48- and 120-bass)

In the string section, the dulcimer enjoys the company of a violin and an acoustic guitar, aswell as a piano (electric, so doesn't have any real strings - but you wouldn't know it to listen to!)

I've never had any instruments from the "brass" family, but I'm sorely tempted to see if I can get hold of an alphorn on one of my trips to Switzerland. I might settle for a didgeridoo, though.

Well, could either or Ncdjd2 or CelticRambler have been contenders? I haven't a musical note in my head despite being in the school choir in the late 1960's - that ended well. As for instruments, my uncle in Scotland has my grandad's flute from his days in the 'band' but as for me - a famous man once said 'a good man should know his limitations' and I know mine.

Great stuff gugleguy. I'd love to be able to read music but never had the patience/ aptitude for it. Is that an electric piano ?
