Sad news tonight but she seems to have been going downhill for a longtime. A controversial figure but a wonderful singer in her heyday. My favourites would be 'Nothing Compares 2 U' and 'She Moved Through the Fair'. RIP

I had the pleasure of seeing here perform a surprise song with Shuggie Otis in Whelan's back around 2005 or so. She stood for what she believed in and often got the scorn of the media and by extension the public for it. Still couldn't detract from her talent. I wonder how much of the media circus contributed to her mental decline. Also, he son only died last year.
RIP Sinead.

Heartbreaking,

Along with Dolores O’Riordan she was one of our best remake singers.

A voice from God. May she be reunited with her son and rest in peace.

She was beautiful when she was young, and in the middle of things, and at the end of things also.

I believe she is with her son in Heaven.

That's very poignant.

I didn't listen last night. But I will today. Playback of John Creedon show. The whole thing is Sinéad's music.

Sinead's death was lead item on the BBC Radio 4 Midnight News last night followed by an extensive, respectful and kind piece about her - I can't remember the last time that I heard the BBC devote so much space to an artist or anybody, save the Queen, in recent times.

We sat out in the office until the wee hours with a few drinks and YouTube. A few laughs and a few tears were had too.

First full album that went on was the amazingly diverse yet reflective Universal Mother, followed by I do not want what I haven't got.

Then, because it was on autoplay, it started playing this brilliantly filmed gig she'd done in 1988, that we hadn't seen previously . .The Value of Ignorance.

She was also innovative in using a female rapper (MC Lyte) for the single mix (beats the album version IMO) - and giving her equal billing on the sleeve
