Shane MacGowan (1957 - 2023)
Re: Shane MacGowan (1957 - 2023)
Sad news. May he rest in peace.
I sat beside him once on some hay bales at a festival and he had a bottle of spirits in each hand. He had a tough punk constitution. I know someone who learned English only by listening to his music. He was appreciated by many.

The two of them together. This is my favourite one.

He was an absolute gent, he gave his seat to my mother once on a train to galway, and offered to bring the entire family group to dinner. A true star in every sense of the word.

What a loss. I got a copy of Rum, Sodomy & The Lash in September 1985 & was blown away by it. Those first three albums are part of my youth and come with so many memories attached.
I was at this gig in 1988. Kirsty MacColl, Joe Strummer and Steve Earle also appeared on stage. The place was heaving. The energy was unbelievable.
