Re: Weather
Alot cooler this morning. Looking at the grass around the place it looks like I won't have to cut it for weeks it's so burnt.

Thundery looking start to the day here in the sunny south east - I won't be sorry to see a drop of rain.
'no more blah blah blah'
Re: Weather
According to BBC & RTÉ there’s a nice high pressure system developing over us for the next fortnight. Should be a nice dry warm spell ahead.

Re: Weather
You're welcome to it.
Our spell has gone on for well over a month now (35-ish °C most afternoons this week) and our maxxed out "critical" drought restrictions are proving insufficient. Further south, the dry spell is coming up on six months. There are over one hundred communes now without drinking water, and we're being warned that electricity will be the next thing to be rationed, as the nuclear power plants are shut down. For the first time in about fifty years, France is having to import electricity in the summer.

Sounds like you could do with Eammo Ryan out there for six months.CelticRambler wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 7:54 am You're welcome to it.![]()

He will turn all those leccy railways to greenways, saving the valuable leccy, and getting you all on bikes. NO more smelly diesel cars as you will be all walking or cycling.
Not too sure whether he spreckes the lingo tho

Beautiful warm, balmy day here in the NE coast. Blue skies, a gentle breeze, if you could visualize an Irish summers day from your youth, this would be it!

Went out for a walk round 8.30 yesterday evening. Nice and cool and a big full moon out. The sunny weather has come at a perfect time for the grain harvests around here. Listening to RTE this morning you'd swear the world was gonna end the way presenters are so alarmist over a few days hot weather.

That picture tells a lot. We don't realise how lucky we are here being on the western edge of the Atlantic

30 degrees Wexford. It's so still today. Very peaceful. And yes, very warm.

Well, I'm sitting here and it's 27C, measured with a thermometer of unknown calibration......
I have learned that fizzy drinks are not recommended in hit weather so I have to hit the ice-cream to cool down. Oh what hardship!

Grand day in Cork , bit warm mind at night but like being on holiday. Shur it's grand we get it maybe once or twice a year if lucky. Don't see the need for all the drama like. We have been getting heat waves for as long as I can remember.
Do we have to be miserable about everything now.

Records may be broken.
One thing though, recently I have seen arguments made that weather measuring stations are generally almost all in built up area where heat is maximised by the surrounding infrastructure. Older stations are in areas that may once have been green belt but are now built up, and this has to affect the comparability of readings over time. This makes sense to me but there's probably good counter argument and maybe it doesn't affect Ireland as much as other countries. Anyway. ??

Is this real? Or recent? Castle Kevin is in Cork. Impressive. I'd kind of freak out if it happened beside me. I think.

Re: Weather
Yep. saw one of them in a field up here in Louth about 20 years ago. All the straw swirling around up into the air. They don't last too long though, especially not in our climes. You see a few on Youtube with lots of dust and a violent enough rotation but I don't think anyone ever gets injured from them.
Re: Weather
At the very beginning of the clip there's a small child. I would have been a bit freaked out to be honest. It does seem to travel as it moved along the field. Very interesting though.quodec wrote: ↑Fri Aug 12, 2022 6:57 pm Yep. saw one of them in a field up here in Louth about 20 years ago. All the straw swirling around up into the air. If you're looking for freaky, then add a bit of fire to the dust:

Re: Weather
That's it folks! Hope you've enjoyed the lovely weather since last Sunday - and great to have it so late in the season too. A nice week in September is still not impossible.
Re: Weather
I love good weather. I look forward to the next batch of it.
