Called to the sister yesterday and she was giving out about the cold and it made the drive "lethal". Ah, the issue was yourself or your lazy husband wouldn't clear up the leaf litter and moss from the drive. They hold water and they froze!

Strangely, I've no moss or leaf litter on mine and the drive is perfectly safe.....

Still -6°C where I am this morning, at 10am. Looks like it'd be a great day for a walk in the Massif Central ... but I have to drive to the coast instead. :(

Coming through the M.C. yesterday, I saw snow, but only on the highest levels, well above 1000m at which I was travelling. The skiing people haven't started worrying yet, but I reckon they'll soon be looking at the forecast with some anxiety.

Good thaw out today where I am, although it feels like that will stop now as evening falls. I didn't have to break the ice in the drinkers. Still snow / hail lying on the ground in the fields from two days ago.

Road outside my place not gritted this morning by the council, and its a busy road too. Again like everything nowadays it looks to me that basic maintenance and processes that were in place for years seem to be now completely forgotten about and now requires a large gathering of experts and politicians to figure out and coordinate efforts that should be run of the mill maintainence for any local authority / council during the winter period. I can't for the life of me understand the media hype surrounding this, understandable advising people to look in on their elderly neighbours but the fact of the matter is if the local authorities done their bloody job there would be no need for national emergency meetings on what is basically light snowfall and frosty weather which they should be able to deal with.

Rant over. :D

No need to apologise KHD, it was merited. Everything is a big deal so politicians and Civil Sevants can get some publicity for doing something that only requires half a brain cell to see, needs doing. Still, I suppose that could be all they can muster between them.

Weather looking to be picking up a few degree as the week progresses and possible snow. A good foot of it would be just the job.

Very heavy fog in Dublin 7. I'm old enough to remember the smog in winter and it reminds me of one of those evenings

It's been raining on and off all afternoon here outside Cork City.

It'll be fun when it freezes tonight

Had several runs to do around mid-Louth today and not once did the car temp gauge go above -2C!!! Neither did the heavy freezing fog lift at any time. It must be a bit of a nightmare for new/young drivers who havn't experienced weather like this before.

Where is this 200,000 tonnes of salt and grit that the politicians and Civil Servants boasted about? None of it seems to have made its way to Wexford, certainly not the Gorey area anyway. We had a few sleety showers yeterday and the roads and footpaths were like glass this morning. No sign of the gritting trucks or even, as is more usual around here, a couple of worthies tossing shovelfuls across the road from the back of a pick up. I didn't have cause to go on the motorway so can only assume it wasn't done either.

The roads and pavements around Enniscorthy town have been fine so far. They put sand/grit or something on the pavements just before the hard frosts started - wonder where they got their advance information from?

I won't begrudge you, you need all the comfort you can get in Enniscorthy :D They'll probably manage to get some here in July.

Strange day in Dublin 7. The morning was very cold but things had warmed up a bit noon. Felt a lot milder then yesterday. Just back from the shops in the last five minutes and its Baltic again

isha wrote: Wed Nov 30, 2022 9:46 pm I'm just going to go ahead and make a prediction. It's not my strong suit - especially with sports and elections, but I'm marginally better with the weather. I reckon a fair chance of very cold weather is coming and it might be quite chilly by or before mid December, 7th to 15th ish... maybe even 🌨️❄️ 🌨️ I see a bit of talk in various places about a lot of cold air above the Arctic. That might move down.

Let's see.
Back again with another prediction, the last one was fairly good. Looks like very cold weather again potentially starting from about 20 - 23rd. Maybe it won't get past Scotland and UK, but let's see.

Snow tomorrow folks. Some areas will get more than others. Friday looking like residual cold slushy stuff with frosty surfaces here and there. Very general of course, so wrap up if outside and stay warm if in. Should clear by Saturday/Sunday.
