Most of the central counties are at status Red for the morning. Schools will be closed until at least 10am but it seems public/school buses wont be running for the morning, so you would assume parents - if they can - will just leave their kids home for the day. What's the point in getting stuck in chaotic traffic with wires down, roads flooded and electricity out. You'd like to think this wont be as bad as is expected, but better safe than sorry!

The over the top. weather reporting this morning is something to behold and god help us if the country is ever hit by a really serious storm or other emergency.

The red warning was probably merited for some Western Counties but in terms of Dublin it was largely much ado about nothing. Yes, it was a blustery morning with some strong gusts but nothing out of the ordinary. Met Eireann really do need to get their warning system changed. One of these days their will be a serious weather event but people just wont take notice

Looks like a chilly couple of weeks coming up, so wrap up warm, cover your externals taps and have your means of transport prepped for the winter.

Fuel in, heavy duvet ready for introduction and will be picking up some Spicy Lentil soup from my local health food store - a great bone warmer when nothing else will do.

Storm Elin passing over 12 to 6 pm today. Mainly a wind event. Plenty of yellow and orange for the northern half of the country. Check your local weather sources for updates.

Storm Elin will be chased immediately by Storm Fergus tomorrow. Will I even be back home on the island after Christmas before Storm Isha? Looks unlikely with the rate of storms.

Fergus tomorrow could prove to be rather inclement for some and there's another low pressure coming in on Monday, so if you have hatches, have them well battened down!

Nope, not a tornado.

Just the well documented after effect of a small bowel of Spicy Lentil Soup

Yiz are all very shmart. These is serious enough! A fair amount of damage done. The storm isn't even due til 6pm.

I see Galway has just come through a sudden red wind warning window of an hour.

At least there's little enough of value to damage in Leitrim - the south of the county anyway.

Must be going through the "eye" of the storm here in Louth, just a gentle breeze out there. Is the worst over?

Looks like the storm coming this weekend - after Gerrit clears away - will be called ISHA, after our favourite Gubu contributor, no doubt! Here's hoping it dosn't get too wild around here!

Wild in Enniscorthy this evening with high winds and the river very high. The railway between Enniscorthy and Wexford was closed most of the day due to flooding and only reopened in mid afternoon.

Storm "Isha" really blowing hard in Enniscorthy this evening. It's been quite wild most of the day but really picking up in the last couple of hours.

During every storm over the last 20+ years, we suffer very little damage and count ourselves very lucky. But there is always one particular concrete tile on our roof that makes an attempt to escape to a new position and ends up broken in the yard. Its a regular occurrence that I have failed to discover the reason why.

I suspect its something to do with the topography around the house, and the roof configuration, ect, ect, ect.

Luckily I bought some extra tiles many years ago to replace this one each year.

And again last night it made its bid for escape and crash landed in the yard 3 metres from the car, luckily. And i have just got down from the roof after replacing it. And by jaysus it was cold up there. Brrrrhhhh......
