Re: Storm warnings and aftermath.
A council worker out clearing debris was killed in Wexford by a falling tree. Man in his 60s, that is sad.

Some amount of water about the place here from all the rain earlier this morning. Hopefully will be clearing soon. Lovely photo Isha.
Re: Storm warnings and aftermath.
Will be wrapping up soon for a long trudge in it. It is not really winter over until I have done that. After that Spring can come. The blueness of the sky is lovely now.

Re: Storm warnings and aftermath.
Well I've learned my lesson. The warnings were worthy of the damage that was caused.
Re: Storm warnings and aftermath.
Just an update from me. Big gust around between 9 and 10 am on Friday (18th Feb) brought a load of trees down and with it the local phone lines and fiber cable. Internet just back (4pm on the 23rd) home phone still down. There was also a power outage for some nearby (not us) which only lasted 45 minutes.

I wonder if that was an example of a "sting jet" in operation? First time I've ever heard the use of that term, but the phenomenon has (apparently) been around since weather was invented. The Continental Op wrote: ↑Wed Feb 23, 2022 4:01 pm Big gust around between 9 and 10 am on Friday (18th Feb) brought a load of trees down and with it the local phone lines and fiber cable.
What is a ‘sting jet’?
Sting jets can cause a phenomenon whereby a narrow area of land is hit by very intense winds, which could reach 100mph or more, but 30 miles away there may be much slower wind speeds associated with a normal storm, of about 60-70mph. This means the damage from a sting jet can be very localised.
Re: Storm warnings and aftermath.
Sting Jet? No idea, I was in bed at the time as I saw no point in getting out for such crap weather. However most of the people I've spoken to locally can remember that particular gust of wind.
I also slept through the UK's great storm of 87 (see your link) when a similar phenomenon brought down a 120 foot tall lime tree very near to our house.

That's a long time to be without connection. How many books did you get read? We have had loads of power cuts in past week and loss of internet - one complete power outage lasting 24 hours, no light, nothing - I got two books finished!!The Continental Op wrote: ↑Wed Feb 23, 2022 4:01 pm Just an update from me. And there is more weather heading our way it seems. I am quite a bit storm weary, it is trying to listen to endless wind and rain. So if someone whisked me off right about now to Sardinia or Greece it would be great thanks!

Sorted out and backed up my Music collection. 2TB of data It had got a bit out of hand
I also sorted out about half a TerraByte of downloaded files of all kinds. Found loads of stuff I didn't have a clue what it was. To start with kept trying to google for the file names till I finally realised that wasn't going to help
And watched a load of films I'd downloaded and never got around to. Found one the Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse surprisingly good.

We even had a sprinkle on the rooftops in the Sunny South East this morning - at first I wasn't sure if it was snow or nuclear fallout.
'no more blah blah blah'

Landline phone finally back working at around 4 pm today (24th).

Here we go again
Met Éireann issues weather warning for the entire country
Doesn't look as bad as last time but you never know, individual gusts (one in particular) did the damage here last time.

Re: Storm warnings and aftermath.
In what should be the peak of the wind now. Nothing like last time. Still very blustery outside but wind for us is in a very different direction. If we walk down the field to the sea you get blown over but going inland from the house its nots so bad.
Was going to go out today, only a 40 mile trip out and then back but not for anything important so will leave it till tomorrow or Thursday now.

Thankfully just strong wind here, was expecting heavy rain this morning but didn't materialise.
