It's rotten out there. I like to go on a short stroll at early light and was thinking of putting on the rain gear, but now I think with the rain beating against the windows.. . nahhhhhh.

What a night. Took a gamble on doing a second load of washing yesterday morning, checked the forecast and my gut-instinct and decided it was okay to hang it out. Felt the first drops of rain before I'd even got the last sheet on the line, but placed ultimately undeserved faith in both personal and professional forecasts and gambled on it being just a quick shower.

Heavy, heavy rain all afternoon and evening, and howling gales most of the night. Just been out to set the line upright and gather the clothes out of the mud. I think they're all there ...

Four dry days in the South. Managed to get a load of manual hedge cutting done.

I say hedge its an old wall with a two foot of grass, weeds, brambles and blackthorn growing in it.

I could let a neighbor cut it with a flail mower but I don't want the old wall knocked down.

Not good enough to cut grass in our bit of Co. Waterford today. Its been grey but warm weather for a good few days.

Sunday looks good to cut the grass, a decent wind but not quite a storm along with hopefully full sun from 10am till 4 pm (if you believe met.ie that is ).

If you are up early tomorrow a partial lunar eclipse is starting at 6 am. Maximum eclipse is about 8 am so won't be that visible as Moon is below horizon then. But there might be something visible between 6.45 and 7 am. Reddening of full moon, looking west to north west. It will be pretty low on sky line so being high up might help.

Although the eclipse commences at 6.02am, you will not see any noticeable dimming of the lunar disk until about 6.45am. A slight staining of the moon’s top edge is then apparent as it slides deeper into the penumbra, or more indistinct outer regions of our shadow.

Contact with the darker umbra occurs at 7.19am, but that time also coincides with the start of civil twilight.

However, it will be possible to track the eclipse’s progress – especially in optical instruments – up to just before sunrise, which is 7.58am from Dublin and 8.08am for Galway. The further west you are in Ireland, the more you will see of the event – the moon is halfway through the umbra by the time it sets from Galway at 8.09am.

Every lunar eclipse is different and this is no exception, with it occurring against a brightening sky before sunrise.

The upper half of the moon will appear inky to the eye as the eclipse deepens but different shades might be obvious in binoculars. Contrast that with the rest of the pale-white disk gradually taking other hues due to atmospheric absorption as the moon nears the horizon.

The curve of the Earth’s shadow will also be obvious, but it can sometimes appear slightly blunt. Careful study of its leading edge may reveal the outline of our ozone layer as a thin, bluish fringe.

Looks like some really bad windy weather Tuesday and Wednesday net week (7th and 8th Dec) . 70kmh winds forecast in Rosslare very early Wednesday morning. Hopefully thats just another bad met.ie forecast for something that doesn't arrive as I want to travel from Pembroke Dock to Rosslare on Wednesday.
