No damage here in Enniscorthy but part of the town had a power outage. As usual heavy rain overwhelmed our local treatment plant and we are on a boil water notice yet again. I haven't trusted the town supply for years and use bottled water for everything except hot drinks, but after this latest nonsense have switched to it for everything - permanently - Ireland 2021 for a Third World experience.

Was expecting a bit of damage after last night but touch wood, apart for a couple of rotten Ash branches which will go on the fire, nothing of any note.

Another 3 hour power cut just finished. Reading by candle light, interspersed with lying on couch thinking about nothing very slowly. Not bad. No wonder our ancestors were imaginative.

There was a couple of hours last night when the wind was way worse than Storm Barra. Not gonna lie but for about 15 minutes I was a tad nervous with the wild sounds and the general buffeting of the ship. Thankfully everything is still in place. The day will be fine today and I am going to see my old friend, the Atlantic.

Yep wind really got up last night and as it was from due south it blew straight off the sea up our valley.

If you are anywhere near Enniscorthy then the rainfall radar shows you have more to come.

Its gone over us now in Waterford so off out to walk the dogs in a minute.

We got it here in Enniscorthy for a couple of hours and then out popped the sun. Is it too early to talk of a 'grand stretch in the evenings' as it's certainly like that here right now? :D

It was nasty here all day and the river is very high. Next high tide is at 10.12pm and I might drag myself out for a look.

Well, that has to have been the wettest Christmas Day I've experienced in a long long time! Probably 12 hours precipitation non-stop from early morning here in the NE, a mixture of heavy and intermittent rainfall a constant throughout the day. Thank God for the central heating and some nice food because there wasn't much else to do. Happy Christmas everyone!

I'm on top of a hill and it will be time to build an Ark if the water comes near me but the Slaney burst its banks and a number of houses and businesses were flooded.

I think the news headline is a bit over the top Humanitarian aid opens for Wexford residents hit by Christmas Day flooding makes it sound like we should be sending aid parcels, but it does look like they got it bad.

Very little reported on it as opposed to when it’s in the south west. It would also lead you to believe it’s all Wexford and not Wicklow and Carlow also.

Enniscorthy is flooded quite often due to many properties - including a modern hotel - being built on the river flood plain. Sadly, the powers that be have decided that the only answer is to spend millions on a new bridge and high river walls costing many millions of Euros. A few basic things which could have been done such as dredging the river and compulsory purchasing and demolition of a handful of poor quality housing units has not been considered. Seemingly not sexy enough for engineers and local politicians. The drastic flood prevention scheme is going to wreck the appearance of the town and cause traffic chaos.
