Re: Weather
The fortune tellers in MetéoFrance tell us to make the most of this afternoon, coz it's back to Autumn As Usual from tomorrow. That'll be tough - it's been great having temperatures in the mid-twenties every afternoon, with a constant stiff breeze to make it easy to keep hard labouring all day without working up a sweat!
Great drying weather for the laundry; not so great for the garden though (except for mowing purposes).

Looks very wet tomorrow evening. If you're brining kids trick or treating best to bring a brolly

Re: Weather
It's raining here since I got up. Won't get much walking done today...Happy Days wrote: ↑Sun Oct 30, 2022 1:59 pm Looks very wet tomorrow evening. If you're brining kids trick or treating best to bring a brolly

Re: Weather
Fekkin useless French fortune tellers. I checked last night, and there was definitely nothing more than a gentle 15km/h southerly breeze forecast for this morning. Non stop gale-force gusts all morning, which are not what you need when you're up a ladder in a tree picking fruit.

Re: Weather
Chucking it down here tonight which is curtailing the fireworks. Presumably it's the same everywhere around the country. Hopefully a more peaceful evening for the emergency services.

In North Kildare and the weather held up nicely until around 8.30. Then it bucketed down just as the fireworks was about to start
Re: Weather
First morning of this winter when I find the house to be cold on waking. There's been a big drop in temperature in the last couple of days.

Re: Weather
Looks as if the Foulksmill area of Wexford was hit by a tornado last week!! I know they had some flooding there but looking at all the felled trees suggests a lot of severe wind in the area too.
Re: Weather
It's so mild out there this last week or so that my flowers are starting to come out again! What's going on?

Re: Weather
Just before I left at the weekend, I noticed that my lilac and kerria had started to bloom. If the fruit trees do the same, it's either going to be a year of bumper crops ... or catastrophic.
Re: Weather
One particular variety of the apple trees I have planted are in full flower again. Will be snipping the all off today.CelticRambler wrote: ↑Wed Nov 09, 2022 4:58 pm Just before I left at the weekend, I noticed that my lilac and kerria had started to bloom. On a positive note at least that wind we had yesterday has subsided.

Re: Weather
Great the temperatures are finally dropping. I've got a load of them nasturtiums outside the front of the house and have spread everywhere due to the warm temperatures.
Re: Weather
First bit of frost this morning. Finally the nasturtium monster outside the front of the house will be stopped from consuming my front lawn.

Frosty start here in Enniscorthy. Good to see and nice to be able to go for a long walk without feeling sweaty when you get home.

I'm looking forward to when the winter corn fields harden up and I can go out under the light of the moon to listen to the sounds of the lapwings at night. Weird b@stard that I am. :

Re: Weather
Living in the centre of town I don't see Lapwings unless I go out into the countryside but they are there and a week ago I saw three from my kitchen window.

Re: Weather
Lovely birds, we used to get flocks of them but sadly no more like most of our bird life these days. The have a lovely call when your out in the middle of a field at night. Usually there's a couple of snipe around too. Seem to roost inland at night as they are no where to be seen during the day around here. Coast is a few miles away.
Re: Weather
First frost of the year in Dublin 7 this morning. Didn't last very long but some of the footpaths were a little slippy when I was going for walk around 8am.
