Biblical scenes in Cork, those poor homeowners and car owners.

The stuff of nightmares.

Photo thread of property being cleaned out this morning in Midleton. I saw videos of people crying. It isexhausting to have to deal with this.

On the other hand, no one died, hopefully the insurance money will come in fast and there will be a bit of government help. People can get back on their feet. Hopefully.

I had a cottage I was renting flood once, had two children at the time, one of them newborn, and a small river beside the house went into spate all of a sudden and washed through the whole house in a surge. Unbelievable how fast it came in.

Luckily I had the baby in my arms and the other child beside me. I remember the nursery stuff just floating around because there was no time. All the lovely blankets and clothes and new crib and everything. I can't remember everything because I think I went into shock.

We did try to get it dried out with industrial dehumidifiers and put up with it for a short while, but in the end I couldn't get past seeing the whole place under water in a flash, and the feeling of damp lingering, and we moved on somewhere else. Actually at the time I took it as an omen to move on, and I couldn't get that out of my head.

There will have to be remedial measures in these areas , cleaning drains, banking up rivers, some sort of defense system. I was flooded because the debris under the bridge further downstream was not cleared by the council.

Lots of roads flooded around Louth this evening. Had to take a detour at Dunleer with the White river flooding onto the road. Saw a couple of foolhardy drivers pushing through the water. Not a good idea!

I'm surprised it's only yellow for Cork given the recent flooding.

I'm getting very fed up with the rain now - it's been relentless since early July bar the early September dry spell. Roads seem to be flooded everywhere, rivers high and fields waterlogged.

There looks to be a low pressure area moving over us around the 2nd of November - let's hope this doesn't verify:

Storm Ciaran has been named.

Advisory for Ireland

On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, there will be heavy showers or longer spells of rain at times over Ireland with flooding likely in places, as soils are saturated and river levels are high.

Later Wednesday and on Thursday, Storm Ciaran will bring falls of heavy rain and strong winds. Current indications suggest the heaviest rain and strongest winds will be in Munster and Leinster with flooding likely.

Additional Impacts:

Poor visibility,
Difficult/dangerous driving conditions

Valid: 14:40 Sunday 29/10/2023 to 23:30 Thursday 02/11/2023

looking like the worst of Storm Ciaran will be felt along the south and east of the country on Wednesday night and much of Thursday. More flooding one presumes and worth keeping an eye on.

Ciaran (no fada?) has triggered a "front page" warning on the French meterological site (meteofrance.com) - first time I've seen that in a long time. They're being cautious with regard to the colour of the warning saying it has yet to be determined; but in the meantime, they're saying the Brittany-Normandy coast should expect waves of about 10m and winds of up to 150km/h on Wednesday. Not a great day to be taking the horse to France ...

Potential Storm Debi tracking across Ireland tomorrow night/Monday morning. Seems to have taken Met Eireann unawares till now. Watch out for more info as the 12th Nov progresses! Hopefully, Windows 7 might have further updates for us.
