Freezing fog and snow cause mayhem in Pennsylvania yesterday. Video not for the faint-hearted!

Amazing - and instead of doing something to stop more crashes he stands there filming...rubber necking at its worst. Thanks for posting!

Absolutely incredible footage of a tornado sweeping through a built up area in Kansas last Friday! Seems to be from a drone so no audio with it. Apparently no fatalities, which is amazing!

Re: Current severe weather around the world!
At the start of last week, a hot, sticky, muggy day here gave way to a cool breezy evening, which was duly followed by flashes of lightning to the southwest. Eldest son didn't know that there's a website that lets you track lightning strikes in real time, so I loaded it up and we watched one branch of the storm pass to the south, and the other pass to the north (fairly typical, though I haven't yet found out why "serious" weather diverts around us like that).
Anyhow the track of northern branch of the storm was impressive, especially as it was making a bee-line for our county town, but as we're well used to summer storms like this, the novelty wore off and we thought no more about it. Except when the landline broadband went down, and then our 4G signal was degraded to 3G ... and then to E, where it stayed till the following morning. But we assumed some mast or other communications hub had taken a hit.
Eh, no. It was a bit more than that!

Partial glacier collapse in the Italian Alps. Temps had reached 10 degrees at the time - a record. You wouldn't want to be near that when it started going!

Floods in Pakistan. We just don't realise how lucky we are in our little corner of the world!

Awful stuff but at least Pakistan have enough money to fund their nuclear arms programme.

The annual dumping of snow in Buffalo, NY. I have a friend from there who now lives in Boston who says its measured in feet. We are lucky with our couple of days of a few centimetres most years!

Jeeeeez! From the Guardian,
But some of that 'Merican logic is just plain bizzare:Western New York state, near the city of Buffalo, was hardest hit, with 43in of snow falling during a 48-hour, zero-visibility blizzard that also recorded hurricane-force winds.
Many of the deaths occurred after residents took to the roads despite a local driving ban. The deaths were ‘“people found outside and in cars”, a Buffalo police statement read.
Rescue teams even found themselves in need of rescue, with all of Buffalo’s firetrucks at one point stranded. Eleven ambulances that had to be abandoned were dug out.
Wut??? Where did the fekkin eejit think he had to go in a zero-visibility, hurricane-force blizzard, instead of staying at home and minding the children himself?Zila Santiago told the New York Times he had been trapped in a snowbank in his car with his four young children for 11 hours. He called emergency services, the national guard and friends for help, but said none came. He distracted his children, he said, by watching Disney’s Frozen.
Santiago, a single father, said he had taken to the roads because he couldn’t afford to leave the kids with their babysitter.

This amount is half our annual rainfall. Falling in a seven hour window. In a fairly localised space.
Thinking out loud, and trying to be occasionally less wrong...

Severe rain in China last Tuesday caused water overflow on these bridges. Also, 40000 have been evacuated from the area!

Not sure where that was, but might well have been La Chaux de Fonds, on the far side of the mountain to where I am this week, and where the wind speeds exceeded 200kmh for a while. Really weird, because on this side of the mountain, there was hardly a breath of moving air.

Shanghai at risk from severe flooding. The dramatic music should have been left out

Beijing is getting very bad floods too.

Southern California got a double whammy this week, with a tropical storm and an earthquake. Serious mopping up to be done there.

There's talk of 50cm to 1metre of rain due to drop on Greece. Over the next three days.
