"Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe" - Frank Zappa

This isn't a quote but a sort of poem. I can relate to it...."Frost tell me what to do"..and me with all my bits and pieces. Sure I am just like you. That's the big secret, the "fix", none of us have a fecking clue what we are at.

I get many phonecalls now. They are all alike. 'Are you Charles Bukowski, the writer?' 'Yes,' I tell them. And they tell me that they understand my writing, and some of them are writers or want to be writers and they have dull and horrible jobs and they can't face the room, the apartment, the walls that night...they want somebody to talk to, and they can't believe that I can't help them, that I don't know the words. They can't believe that often now I double up in my room, grab my gut and say 'Jesus Jesus Jesus, not again!' They can't believe that the loveless people, the streets, the loneliness, the walls are mine too. And when I hang up the phone they think I have held back my secret. I don't write out of knowledge. When the phone rings, I too would like to hear words that might ease some of this. That's why my number's listed."

Marcus Aurelius philosopher Emperor of Rome in the first century AD;

Don't indulge in dreams of that which you don't possess, instead count up all the blessings of what you do possess and consider how you would crave for them if they were not yours.

Be tolerant of others, but strict with yourself.

The best revenge is to be not like your enemies.

Everything we hear is opinion not fact, everything we see is a perception, not the truth(oul Marc being postmodernist 2000 years too early). :D

His writings Meditations are remarkably valid and informative even today.

The 'Oul Romans must have had fierce good Virtual Reality.
On the plus side, that mindset must have been a great solace when leaving the local amphitheater after a hectic afternoon watching gladiators killing each other :shock:

Variation on that theme, for which I have no original source -
