Does that mean you prefer it to not mean as much to you? I find that it can be sort of overwhelming or something, being stirred deeply by words.

I didn't mean words at the time, though those too can be overwhelming. I meant the moon, the planets, the cosmos, the awesome metaphysics of it all, coincidence, dreaming, visions, prognosticating, energy, esoterica, our place as puny creatures in the grand vista, the meaning of every insignificant thing if we let it resound.

It sounds like your Dad has a great helper and daughter in you.

Your like my mam the way she used to talk about the moon. If I was in a pub or when I was living away for a while, if there was a full moon out she'd ring me and tell me to go outside and have a look at the lovely moon outside. And of course now it's engrained in my head forever to keep an eye on the moon.

I've no idea why I'm sitting at a computer and I've had TG4 on the TV for the last half an hour belting out Country and Western music. Daniel O'Donnell singing as gaeilge. Perfect music while browsing irrigation equipment. But it's getting on my nerves now.

I noticed myself looking backwards all the time now on footpaths because of those damn scooters and electric yokes.

I was with a friend recently and we had a close encounter with an adult using a scooter on a main road roundabout. They are a menace and it's only a matter of time before somebody gets killed on one.

Would love to see the stats for eScooter injuries from casualty departments in hospitals... not only are there clowns on them that don't give a flying fook about pedestrians, falling off one without a helmet travelling at 20kph would not be good for your head or body.

Just looking at the state of my clothes. Every trouser I have has either paint, lithium grease stains or are ripped from fencing and barbed wire. My jumpers are the same, the sleave of the jumper I have on is literally shredded from work I was doing yesterday. I'm changing my handle from KHD to Wurzel Gummage. If I was walking down Grafton Street people would be probably coming up to me offering me a cup of tea.

Your faith in the altruistic behaviour of the people of Grafton St. is commendable.

Then again ... many years ago, I answered a knock on the door of our not-so-new-anymore house in France to find one of the Helpful Ladies From The Church on my doorstep. She said that "a few parishoners" were worried that we were so hard up, I couldn't afford coats for the children - because they were never seen wearing any at Mass. A bit of context: French children generally get wrapped up in six layers of insulation as soon as the temperature drops below 15°C

I tried my best to reassure the Good Lady that we were not entirely destitute, even showing her a pile of coats on a chair behind the door ... but Eldest Daughter (only about 10 at the time) didn't feel the message had been fully understood. So on the following Sunday, she arranged for all her siblings to troop in to the church, head for a pew towards the front, and make a big performance of shrugging off their coats to reveal their "Sunday best" underneath. 8-)

(Said child later went on to do a degree in performing arts)

In terms of country couture, I have a story. Yesterday, after work at home, we went to a woodyard out of our area, loaded up with some firewood, paid and left.

Yer man seemed a bit uncomfortable, says himself on the way out.
That's because we look like tinkers, I said.
I do not! he said, and neither do you.
I'm afraid you do, said I, and yer only being nice saying that I don't!

I suppose it is advisable to check the mirror before one heads out merrily into the world.

Reminds me when we were younger my dad used to drive lite ace vans. On a Saturday evening he and my mother used to load myself and brother into the back of it to bring us to Saturday mass. My father had a big beard and he'd roll up to the front of the church where all the towns folk were pouring in and myself and brother used to alight, reluctantly, via the side door of the van. I was always thinking that everyone must think we were the travelling hill billys.

I think we should bring back more hillbillyness. Something changed when we all got too conscious of keeping up with the fancy pants. My Da used to be in his white vest and a pair of old suit trousers at home on summer evenings after work. And when the six of us kids had worn him down enough he would put a suit jacket on over the vest and still wearing his house slippers drive us all in the Escort into the town where we could buy treats like Time bars that would nearly rip the teeth straight out of your head. He didn't seem to give a damn what he was wearing, though he was a very good looking man, and the women were always smiling at him 🙂

Ah. Yes now that can be weighty on the mind but worth it. An expansive mind :)

Thank you Isha. I do my best with him, sometimes anyways.

Now what's on my mind. Are you all well around these parts? We have the Sean Quinn documentary on. Some man for one man

It's a shame that Redneck Reject deleted his profile. An interesting poster that gave good insights into the equestrian business. If your reading this man I hope you didn't get the sack that time for refusing to deal with that man you said was an arsehole who shouldn't be let near a horse.

Calculated how much I spend on cigs per year based on current market prices -> over 5000 euros. That should put me at the top of the Gubu stupid list for a while.
