Long, long ago the Irish Times was great for its Tintin, and later, Asterix cartoons. I was a regular writer to the letters page for some years - I still have the first one that I sent while still at school. Apart from killing flies it also was useful for lining the dog's bed and for making 'twists' for lighting the fire.
