Is it easy to apply for Job Seekers Allowance?

#1

Post by mariannaspring »

I'm turning 25 in June and have struggled to get a job. I've never had JSA or JSB but heard it's means tested. I live at home but my parents are regularly abroad for months at a time and wouldn't be able to hand over payslips.

I heard once you are 25 then it's no longer means tested even if you live and partially rely on someone else. Is this true?

There's certainly loads of badly paid jobs in the retail and service industry that will see you living with mammy and daddy until you're in your twilight years.

There is no excuse for anyone to be on job seekers. Construction, engineering, hospitality etc all have vacancies. People want the water but won’t drill the well.

It must be great to live in world where everyone is multi-skilled, can turn their hand to anything and has never been refused a job in their life.

No one is advocating some one to be multi skilled. If one has no skills they need to upskill or find work that needs no skill. It’s as simple as that really.

Likes of Eamonn Ryan and co,are making being on dole more viable than working with their efforts to force people out of cars and zero public transport in majority of the state

Good few people I know, would be on fence in terms of being better off signing, after commuting costs are taken out of their wages.....lads getting circa e400 a week spending e150 plus on diesel is bollocks,no matter what upskilling ya do,the government will simply take the extra off you in tax anyway, and take years upon years to repay the upskill costs aswell

Buggered if I could sit on my arse on the dole if there were jobs about, I've been through periods of high unemployment in Ireland and always found it better to be out there in the mix, opportunities arise just by being there. Too much encouragement today for people to do fcuk all and claim handouts from the State which other people are put to the pin of their collar to pay for. I get pissed off at people who turn up their noses at jobs in Mc Donalds but expect the people who take those jobs, to feed and clothe their kids and put a roof over their heads and fund their partners' maternity care when once again they couldn't keep their knees together after a few too many vodkas. Responsibility for one's own actions is a thing of the past, it seems
There should be a limit to the duration of dole payments, especially in times of full employment, there should be constant reviews of all Social Welfare payments, particularly lone parents which I know for a fact, is regularly abused. People shouldn't expect cradle to grave state support without making any contribution, and this is coming from a lifelong socialist and trade unionist, what people seem to forget is that Trade Unions are about the rights of the workers, not the wasters.

Must be great to live in a world where everything's that simple.

Shame it has no bearing on reality.

You’re just being argumentative for the sake of it now. Will you proof read the rubbish you are composing.
