Was in Bowes yesterday and am pleased to report that the Guinness was as good as ever and not a tourist in sight. Which is always a plus

Bowes is on Fleet street right ?
It looks like a bit of a rough spot from the outside, but inside photos are nice ... I don't mind, I just might take my father in law there in the summer when I'm home..

Not rough in the slightest. They dont tolerate any nonsense. One of the few genuine Victorian bars left in Dublin City Centre. Gets a very regular clientele. And they tend to sit at the front of the bar as you go in. If you sit there you might get one or two odd looks but nobody will say anythingBishop_Brennan wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 9:32 am Bowes is on Fleet street right ?

Wasn’t always but lately since the renovations you can put Paedar Kearneys on Dame St.
Used to be a decently priced pint in a proper ole boozer - now 7 euro and it’s practically a theme pub.

Under new ownership AFAIK. Who unfortunately have really gone in for the whole paddywhackery vibe. A decent pub ruinedPlaneSpeeking wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 6:04 pm Wasn’t always but lately since the renovations you can put Paedar Kearneys on Dame St.

The buses used to run through Temple Bar and I remember, there weren't any lights on it which was just as well because nobody wanted to see the state of the place. The same goes for a lot of the "trendy" haunts in Dublin today, amazing what throwing a few bob and unlimited planning permissions can do.
