Hello Dear

greetings from Burkina Faso, I am Miss Yasmine Ibrahim Coulibaly 24 years old female from the Republic of Ivory Coast, West Africa, am the Daughter of Late Chief Sgt. Warlord Ibrahim Coulibaly (a.k.a General IB). My late father was a well known Ivory Coast militia leader. He died on Thursday 28 April 2011 following a fight with the Republican Forces of Ivory Coast (FRCI). I am constrained to contact you because of the maltreatment which I am receiving from my step mother, you can read more about my late Father death through the below links:

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2011/ ... -coulibaly.

I am seeking a long term relationship and investment assistance. My father of blessed memory deposited the sum of US$ 14.5 Million in one bank in Burkina Faso with my name as the next of kin. So If you are interested please contact me in my private email address (yasmineibrahimm@outlook.com) for more details.

Thanking you a lot in anticipation of your quick response. I will give you details in my next mail after receiving your acceptance mail to help me,

Yours sincerely
Miss Yasmine Ibrahim.

Getting a lot of text messaging claiming to be from AIB and BOI with a link to a dodgy website.

I just report the website to Google, Microsoft and the hosting service (usually godaddy).

The domain name may have been registered via Godaddy (it is the registrar for over 25% of all gTLD domain names) but hosting can be quite different. One of the recent scam texts for an Irish bank that I got was hosted on a Chinese webhoster. This kind of DNS abuse is a major topic in the domain name industry. Most people just delete the scam texts without reporting them. The DNS Abuse Institute launched the Netbeacon site for reporting phishing/malware etc.

https://netbeacon.org/

It is probably a better and easier way to report than contacting Google, Microsoft, the registrar and the hosting provider. It might also be a good thing to report the URL/domain name to the relevant bank as registrars will often take a domain name down quicker if the banks report it directly.

The very plausible PayPal/Walmart emails are appearing all over the place - a friend has had three of them in recent days - but wisely did nothing apart from reporting them to PayPal. Sadly, due to the massive scale of PayPal's operations, reporting things only triggers automated responses. Be careful out there!

It has been going on for years. The idea is to get the victims to ring the number and provide their credit card details. The antivirus one is a variation on this. See at least one of these spams every few days. (I have some old e-mail addresses.) There's been an uptick in password theft e-mails in the last week or so too.

How about scamanna as Gaeilge on WhatsApp. I just got this...
Dia duit, níl mé i dteagmháil leat le fada, níl a fhios agam an cuimhin leat fós mé, mar sin sheol mé grianghraf díom chugat Is fada liom uaim thú go mór.Cén chaoi a bhfuil tú? D’aistrigh mé go cuntas WhatsApp nua agus ba mhaith liom go gcuirfidh tú mo chuntas WhatsApp nua leis. Is féidir linn nascadh níos fearr anseo ....

I have had the Irish language scams myself and it shows real stupidity by the scammer in narrowing down their pool of possible victims to a tiny minority of people before they even get started.

My cousin sent around some whatsapp message purportedly coming from Cadburys. My father got it. I said I hope he didn't click on it but in fairness I have him to such a level that he's afraid to click on anything :D

She sent around another message to say "it came from someone that was a member of a church" and that she thought it would be ok ???? Best I've ever heard.
