Apparently I'm due a package from the United Nations. Must keep an eye out for it.

From: Nathan Weathers, the Officer in charge UPS,

UPS Freight Service Center New York,

Greetings,

My Name is Nathan Weathers, the officer in charge of UPS Delivery Express Services here in New York. This is to inform you that we received a package containing Capital One Bank ATM CARD valued at $10.5M (Ten Million Five Hundred Thousand Dollars) as part of United Nation Compensation Funds from Dr. Lael Brainard, one of the Federal Reserve Bank, Board of Governors and former member United States under Secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs from 2010 to 2013. We have been instructed by the United Nation to deliver the package to you without any further delay.

The pin code and instructions on how to use the card will be sent to you so when you get your parcel you will open it and then all other information is there to assist you to start making use of the card in any ATM MACHINE near you. Meanwhile I want to notify you that the delivery fee of your package has been paid by the Capital One Bank, New York branch where your fund was approved so you don't have to pay for any delivery fee again, The only thing remaining right now is the Insurance Coverage/Wrap fee of $150 as the Authorities have Authorized before your package will be delivered to you.

However the tracking number of your package will be issued to you as soon as we receive the (insurance Coverage/Wrap) fee of $150 from you, so request for information where you will make the payment of $150 for your Insurance Coverage/Wrap fee to enable us deliver your ATM CARD to your address.

You are hereby advised to stop any form of communication with every other person if you have been in contact with any, also remember that all you will ever have to spend is $150 nothing more. We are also guaranteeing that your ATM CARD will be successfully delivered to you before the next 48hrs after confirmation receipt of the fee of $150.

Everything has been taken care of, including Taxes, Custom Paper and Clearance Duty. So, all you will ever need to pay is $150.

Please kindly reconfirm the following details below to avoid any wrong delivery.

1. Your Full Name:

2. Delivery Address:

3. Your direct Cell/Whatsapp Number:

4. A copy of your ID:

5. Your Nearest Airport:

Be advised that I will send you the copy of your ATM CARD when we received your details

Waiting for your urgent reply.

Received this one today - it's going the rounds so long now that it has hairs on it. Scammers really need to try a new approach as nonsense like this is never going to get a bite and if it does it's only the law of natural selection.

My name is Maxwell Donald from Chicago IL. I have been on the lookout for some artworks lately in regards to I and my wife's anniversary, which is just around the corner.

With that being said, I would like to purchase a surprise gift to my wife in honor of our upcoming wedding anniversary.

It would be of help if you could send some pictures of your piece of works, with their respective prices and sizes, which are ready for immediate (or close to immediate) sales. My budget for this is within the price range of $500 to $6,000.
I look forward to reading from you in a view to knowing more about your pieces of inventory.

Regards,

Maxwell.

You'd think at this stage all providers of email programs would be forced to instead of showing the friendly from name when you open an email and instead have the sender's / from email address. It's a simple thing that would make users a bit safer by showing them the domain behind the fake friendly from address.

For those that will fall for an email scam I don't think trumpets sounding along with a flashing blue light would make much difference.

There will be someone that gets that FedEx scam email that is desperately awaiting a package and get caught.

One of the most annoying things about these emails is the lack of response from various companies when one draws their attention to the attempted scam. I recently reported quite a good attempt to An Post - even finding a contact email address to report it to was difficult - and two months on no feedback. Why would you bother? It should be a criminal offence not to have dedicated email/and team to attend to such matters but there's fat chance of that happening and having seen first hand how 'compliance' is handled in the finance sector ....

Very hard to stop it Del. You can report it as spam to your email provider but the email is gone out and the damage done. In the morning they'll either used another domain or new account from say yandex.ru. The cycle simply starts again.

Email is a terrible communication medium really. It's unreliable, not secure in the least, easily 'spoofed', etc.

Lots of sites like this one which allow you send an email to any address, from any address.

The worst thing is email technology can't be improved. We're stuck with it.

Here's a real beaut which really illustrates just how stupid some scammers are. A little research and they would realise that they have reduced their target market down to the about 10 people who speak Irish, use a computer and are senile...
