Qatar 2022

Maybe a thread about the actual football that’ll be played. Brazil seem to be the favourites according to the bookies but I like Argentina and Messi has returned to unplayable form as well as winning the 2021 copa America. France seem a decent bet too.

I see the first match is Qatar v Ecuador. I know its traditional for the hosts to kick off the tournament but its not exactly a glamour tie

A few of Ecuadors players are worth more then the entire Qataris team. Ecuador interestingly have a trio at Brighton. Despite having home advantage I can’t see Qatar causing an upset here at 31/21 Ecuador look a good bet. They have a manager who’s been working miracles.

The result has probably been pre-decided and I wouldn't bet tuppence on any of these games, Qatar will probably go on to win the tournament.

Outside bet - Germany. If they top their group (i.e get past Spain) then they have a good chance.

Brazil and Argentina also looking good.

A big chance for Wales to get off the pot after numerous botched failures at qualifying.

Quite a few big names with a lot of miles on the clock anxious to go out in a blaze of glory - Modric, Ronaldo, Pepe, Silva, Messi, Suarez, di Maria, Lewandowski, Muller, Benzema - which might influence things.

The Dutch look tasty and are worth a punt. But as always with them is what's happening off the pitch that will decide how well they fare

I think, at this stage, it's whoever beats Brazil will win the 2022 World Cup. Am I right?

Managed to see none of it so far and just hear about it on the sport obsessed news media. My only interest is whether there will be more fighting between English and Spanish in Tennerife tonight. How did we ever have an empire....oh wait, that's where we would have shipped these fine specimens of humanity off to.

Based on the group stages Brazil and France are the clear favourites

In my excitement to post earlier I said fighting between Spanish and English fans - of course I meant Welsh and English fans. It's hard to be perfect all the time. :D

Wales were very disappointing. I now it was their first World Cup in 64 years, which was a wonderful achievement for them. But they just seemed happy to be there.

Bale and Ramsey were poor. Looks like it was one tournament too many for them

The best player of all time should have a World Cup under his belt, would be a shame otherwise. Especially since the team around him ain’t half bad.

I'm wondering if the Senegal supporters with the white face make up will be cited for racism, or is that just a one way street?

It's only racist if one of us peasants do it.
If you were, for example, a Prime Minster of Canada...

This is their second last game and they've yet to meet any serious opposition.

The last time the French beat us was at Hasting in 1066 - all one way traffic since. Still have managed to avoid seeing any of the World Cup so far - Paddy Power's live feed is enough for me. 3-0 now.
