Moral of story. Repair attempt was a failure. Buy a Sony or Samsung if you're on a budget.

I've replaced the backlight inverter a few times, you need to get the exact one for your model TV. It's actually a handy fix. It happens Sony and Samsung also!

Some degree of serviceability is put into Sony and Samsung TVs , at least.

So basically I own a Vestel with a "JVC" sticker. A badge is too good a phrase.

Ask in shop to view REAR of tv unit, and look out for the shape at the back of the screen.
If it says something like "Assembled in Poland" like my 21" LG then it's not made by vestel (all vestel tellies are mass produced in Turkey)
