War Stories with Mark Felton:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCR3L1I ... WQjqfz608g
Very interesting, informative channel with all sorts of mainstream and obscure material from World War.II. but I have to be in the right frame of mind to watch as it's heavy going i.e. it's not "Dad's Army".

Re: Your favorite Youtube channels
It's mad the things you end up watching on youtube.
I recently watched this 1h20mins video about the apollo guidance computer (came up recommended). Not a chance I'll watch this until the end I thought, but after finishing it was really glad I did.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFHUP1 ... YUWyyICp-A
This channel I started watching during the lockdown when I wasn't playing football. Had never seen anything like it (unlike that ad). A Korean footballer gives you his point of view while playing in matches, with a go pro on his head. He has played in the Thai professional league.

As someone who ekes out an existence buying and selling I regularly look in on at what others are doing. Nic & Andrea Hills: Reselling & Low Impact Lifestyle - a channel run by two UK based eBayers is a regular port-of-call. The presentation can be a bit hard to watch for long but it's quite a useful site for getting ideas.

Another YouTube reseller site is Craigslist Hunter: https://www.youtube.com/c/CraigslistHunter/about
Featuring a giant pawn broker type operation in the US where customers - many of them fairly desperate - do battle with the store's owner and generally come out of their encounter with little to show for their 'treasure'. Something of an acquired taste best taken in small doses!

Re: Your favorite Youtube channels
Most of my YouTubing is of the "search and you will find" variety, so I'd end up watching a dozen variations on the them of "how do I [whatever] ..." and I have very few subscriptions (and most of them haven't had any new videos posted in over two or three years )
But two that get me out of bed in the morning, or at least encourage me to actually do some of the projects on my To Do list rather than just thinking about them are these:
(1) Liziqi, Chinese landscape gardener, artist and all-round handywoman - suggested to me by a Russian lady I was flirting with briefly a few years ago:
My kind of woman - knows how to use a hammer/build a wall/surf on a paddy-field and still looks absolutely fabulous at the end of the day! And her granny's really cool, too!
(2) Olivier Verdier, wookworker from the Auvergne - appeared on my recommendations as if by algorithmic magic! Don't usually watch anything that's recommended, but this one intrigued me for some reason, and I've been working my way through the back-catalogue since.
Apart from the actual pieces he makes, it's so much more enjoyable to watch his videos, with their various camera angles, stop-motion animations, sensibly edited bloopers, etc than the typical monotone POV monologue on other channels. And it's been a real confidence builder to see a professional woodworker make the same mistakes as me!

Different ones in bursts. Right now Andrew Huberman's Lab podcasts. Sleep vids - I hace been using the circadian resets, really good. Yesterday eyesight. Some really interesting stuff and overall daylight seems to be a big thing for us humans.
Thinking out loud, and trying to be occasionally less wrong...
Re: Your favorite Youtube channels
Nightwork is definitely the enemy of human health. Once your circadian rhythm is out of whack, its no good for general health.
You definitely need a reset then.
And I know people who have sleepless nights ect from their circadian rythm all out, and they get bottles of Melatonin to help them out.
When all they need is a re set. Not sure how the pills go for them
Re: Your favorite Youtube channels
He is not a fan of melatonin supplementation, cannot remember his logic as I zone out the supplements parts.kadman wrote: ↑Sun Aug 01, 2021 10:14 am Nightwork is definitely the enemy of human health. Once your circadian rhythm is out of whack, its no good for general health.

The circadian reset I am doing is 10 minites out in the garden when I wake up and 10 minutes again in the evening. The key is the slanting light, he talks about photons and the effects on eye neurons and their subsequent triggering of parts of the brain above the roof of the mouth. Fascinating stuff. I have found an effect on my sleep already.
Plus for eyesight 2 important points are 2 hours daily in daylight with no sunglasses or barrier like windshield, and looking at horizon for eye muscle retraining/ relaxing.

Re: Your favorite Youtube channels
Well, it depends on the human. I read a thing recently that hypothesised the presence of a "night watchman" gene/genetic trait in the human population to explain why certain people (like me) have a circadian rhythm permanently out of whack. The suggestion was that, back in our hunter-gatherer days, the more successful tribes would have been the ones with a few oddballs who had no trouble staying awake all night, and could wake the others in case of attack.
Topic for another thread, perhaps.

Grounding is another brilliant therapy too for health, and amazing lucid dreaming as a result.isha wrote: ↑Sun Aug 01, 2021 10:35 am He is not a fan of melatonin supplementation, cannot remember his logic as I zone out the supplements parts.

My #1 favourite is a criminal psychology channel called Jim Can't Swim. It's specific to methods of interrogating suspects.

Only a few days to go now I think. Though, knowing the lads, it’ll be stretched out over a few more episodes!

Re: Your favorite Youtube channels
I unashamedly go for Second World War History stuff.
Mark Felton Productions are about as historically accurate as you can get.
Drachinifel is good for Naval history.
PeriscopeFilm is a weird one that has loads of archive material including old military training videos. I like the old WWII Private Snafu films.
There are a few others that have really good content that is spoilt by presentation. Lindybeige has great material and content but after 5 minutes he does my head in but with well over a million subscribers others obviously like him.
Then of course there are all the gun guys, to name a few Forgotten Weapons, Royal Armouries and Bloke on the Range.
Recently got pulled into watching some stuff on magnet fishing and if I want some really lazy watching there is alway Pawn Stars.

I never knew what JCS stood for.. ha
I found his second channel a few months ago in case anyone hasn't seen it. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxU5Fv ... J9AzYA_syA
His style of video production has spawned several other creators(e.g. Aurace crime) that are now also doing the same type of videos and they all give credit to JCS. He created his own genre.
