Re: History Quiz
What was the name of the last lightship to be withdrawn from service from the Irish coast. Second last was the Coningbeg lightship past the Saltee Islands off Kilmore Quay.

Re: History Quiz
South Rock (name of the station) rather than the ship c.1982 - off Strangford Lough. I cheated as I have a load of Lightship stuff as it was a passing interest.

Postcard looks good Del. A skipper used to bring us out to the Coningbeg sometimes when we were down fishing out past the Saltee Islands from Kilmore Quay. He had something to do with supplies on it. Was a good area for catching Whiting.

I think it was somebody being shot by a firing squad, but who? I'll guess Padraig Pearse.

Topical one this. How many European countries have *active* volcanoes?
*(Active in recent times - last 500 years)

Iceland too
Are we talking Europe geographically here or European states (So like how Russia has volcanoes on its Pacific coast, Turkey also has some in the east)

Re: History Quiz
No, I’m not including Russia or Turkey. Four named correctly so far; Italy, Greece, Spain & Iceland. Two more left!

Well done Riff. Portugal is correct with Mount Pico in the Azores, which last erupted in the 18th century.

Re: History Quiz
Ah crap! I finished reading "Titans of history" by Simon Sebag Montefiore and it's mentioned there. Now I'm struggling to think of it?

Quick and easy one. Who was born Josef Vissarionvich Djugashvilli? Everyone would recognise the name the person was better known as.
